Dressing hip when pregnant

One of the hardest part of pregnancy, besides the aches, changes in body, and out of control hormones is how difficult it seems to be to keep your style. Dressing hip and stylish when pregnant can be a real challenge. There are far fewer items to choose from for maternity wear then regular clothes. However, do not worry, with a few simple tweaks, and a few key items in your wardrobe, you can dress hip, and be a fashionable mama.
The first tip is to wear the same types of colors and things you enjoy wearing when you are not pregnant. For example, if you love neutral colors normally, and feel confident and comfortable in them, that is what you should wear when you are pregnant as well.
The second tip is to choose a solid color that is a neutral, whether that is gray, black, brown, or white, and then buy some key pieces to coordinate your wardrobe around. Having one great pair of pants, one skirt, on jacket, and one tunic top can go along way to making a great hip maternity wardrobe.
The second key to dressing hip when pregnant is, spend less on maternity clothes and more on fun accessories. It is always a good idea to borrow before you buy. Maternity clothes do not come cheap, and since you may only wear them a few months, why not borrow them from a friend or family member if possible? If you borrow all of your maternity basics from friends and family, you can buy a few fun accessories to make your look more hip, and help you look and feel more confident when you are pregnant.
Another great idea is to check out consignment shops and thrift stores. Women who spend a lot on maternity clothes buy hip clothes, and if they sell them to get some money back. If you do not mind sifting through, you can often score designer maternity clothes at a fraction of the original price.
Another thing to consider is the fact that you probably have some clothes in your own closet that would work well when you are pregnant, at least in the first few months. If you don't, check your man's closet. Some of his dress shirts can be very hip and cute over a great pair of leggings.
One great way to dress hip when pregnant is to wear normal clothes as long as possible. It is easier now with low rise jeans that sit under the belly, and lose flowing shirts that can be found at every store. So, make what you already have last longer by looping a rubber band around the hole and over the button, or by wearing a belly band.
If you want to look hip, you need to look good, so get a more hip hair cut, wear a little more fun makeup, or really stylish shoes. Just because your clothes are plain does not mean you have to look like boring maternity. Instead, wear great earrings, try new fun hair styles, and add some pazzazz with hand bags and bangle bracelets.
Of course, it is also good to wear clothes that help you look great pregnant. For example, there are certain cuts that are becoming on your changing form: A-line shifts, empire-waist dresses and tops, and pencil skirts paired with swingy shirts. Or low rise pants and a fitted tee. Or try a peasant top.
So, look hip by buying some transitional pieces that will help you get through the awkward stages. Then buy some non-maternity clothes in a size larger than normal that are hip and fun. Then buy some great hip accessories to help spice up your maternity look.
Also remember that form-fitting is much more flattering than really loose. So stay hip by keeping your own style, and by making the most of what you have. You do not have to wear baggy ugly clothes just because you are pregnant, be proud of your shape.
