Dressing like a Diva on a budget
63Getting a fabulous wordrobe for less!
As an aspiring diva on a budget I know the thought of building a fabulous wardrobe on a dime is daunting! Well never fear because I'm here to help all you boys and girls navigate your way through the fashion jungle and onto the best dressed list.
The first thing to remember is that it's not what you wear but how you wear it! Just because you can't afford the latest Prada handbag, or Channel suit doesn't mean you can't look amazing. What's really important is the fit of your clothes. Never and I repeat NEVER wear clothing that are too small for you. Buying something in the size you wish to be, instead of the size you really are does nothing but destroy self confidence. In the same respect never buy clothing that's too large for you. You might think that the extra fabric makes you look thinner but in reality it makes you look frumpy and shapeless. Clothing the body you have correctly is all you really need to do to camouflage and "problem areas" you feel you have.

Items Every Diva Should Have in Their Closet
There are certain items every diva should own, they are the essential to you looking fabulous!
1 Dark Wash Jeans - they are hands down the most flattering for any figure. Whether you can ware skinny jeans, or have to go for straight leg high rise, a dark wash really makes a difference. It also has the added benefit of making most look thinner!
2 Little Black Dress - every diva needs that little black dress she can pull on in a moments notice for any event. (I find that knee length with a v-neck works best for me) The key factor in finding the right "little black dress" for you is that you're comfortable, and feel gorgeous in it. It's one of those things that the moment you're in it you think "damn, I'm sexy!".
3 Black Pumps - I was never a fan of high heels until I got older, now I think every diva needs a closet full of them! Not only do they make you look taller, and leaner - but they help improve your posture. Heels add that needed kick to any outfit which is why you should own at least one pair, back being a neutral color which goes with mostly anything.
4 Fabulous Trench Coat - When winter starts approaching it's always frustrating trying to find a suitable coat which doesn't completely clash with what you're wearing. I can't believe how many times I agonized before throwing on my beat up pea coat, because the look was so not cute. Luckily last year I found this amazing Guess Trench Coat in bright red! It screamed Diva! Which Is why it's now a staple to my wardrobe - it goes with basically everything which is why every woman should have one.
5 Nice Leather Handbag - We'd all love to have designer bags with out having to pay an arm or a leg. And while Ebay certainly makes that a little more possible, Diva's on a budget can manage to find nice bags at stores like Marshalls or TJMaxx for much less! A nice big Tommy Hilfiger bag works just as well as a coach one and costs a lot less. (not to say I don't love designer bags - I'm just on a budget!)
6 Fur Coat - Now before you get ready to throw paint, I'm not suggesting you buy real fur! Faux looks just as good as real for only a fraction of the price, and doesn't cause any threat to living beings. I'm simply stating that every diva needs some kind of fur - faux or real - coat, hat, gloves, muff ... it's a must. It's all about the look, and the dramatic statement that fur makes is what a diva is going for.
7 Jewelry - This is a staple of a Diva's wardrobe, you can never have enough jewelry. I personally go for the bling - the shinier the better! Try looking at antique shops or estate sales for costume jewelry. it might be more expensive the plastic, but it's better quality and still more attainable then the real deal.
8 Floor Length Gown - Now some might wonder wear they'd ware a floor length ball gown , but I wonder where you can't wear one! Every Diva needs a wow piece, which sets them apart from the rest and for me that's dresses. Something tight and slinky, or long and flowy - it's an expression of who you are as a person and something every girl needs.
9 Leather Boots - there is nothing more empowering then a nice pair of leather high heel boots! This is another one of those items I feel you should spring on. I'm not saying spend $700 on Manolo's but spending $100-$150 on a well crafted pair of boots which will last a while is just common sense for a Diva.
10 Hats - I'm not talking baseball caps, Diva's need show stoppers. I'm talking we're going to the races, English garden party, Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's hats. The bigger the better! Don't go too crazy with the design, go for clean shapes and lines. Nothing too floral, and keep ribbons to a minimum
The best thing to remember is that your style is something thats always evolving, as you grow so do your tastes. By taking your time and shopping around you'll be dressing like a diva in no time!
