Free Traffic

As I mentioned in my previous hub, my first one on HubPages, I mentioned my fairly new blog, TekBlogger, which I started only this month. As and when I started to miss people who visit my blog and read the content that I publish, I realized one thing. It is very easy to write out a post and publish it on the internet but it can be extremely difficult to find genuine readers for your blog. Finding healthy traffic can be as tedious a task as you can imagine if you are not using online marketing tools, like adwords, where you pay to advertise your brand. In this post, I will write out the few things that I have learned as a learner and a beginner in my very young but active blogging career. As I discovered two new means of promotion of my blog, I decided to write out a hub on it. I will discuss the points that I found relevant and helpful also describing the extent to which they were useful to me as a beginner.

  • The best technique I found useful in promoting my blog was writing for Ezine. You sign up to write articles on almost anything you like and get them published on Ezine websites. These help you gain readers if your article was written well enough and the readers found it useful. Secondly these websites are highly ranked amongst various search engines and backlinks from these websites are very useful. Articles written on such websites stand nowhere less than page rank 6 in Google at least and if you know SEO, you definitely know what that means to your website. Most of these articles will also let you leave a link back to your website. This will let your links be among the top rankings in search results. As for example, I instantly got a link back on the top page of google for my post Wordpress vs. Blogger which mentioned the pros and cons of both Blogger.com and Wordpress.com.
  • Another new method of promotion I found was Orkut Promote. Now, as for the users in different parts of the world but India, this scheme was already available to them but in India, it has only been there since the last few days. You simple create a 'My Promotion' and promote it on orkut. Now this promotion gets displayed right on top of the home pages of orkut users. Though most popular only second to MySpace, I guess we in India still prefer Orkut over MySpace. So that was another cool thing I discovered this morning.
  • The next most beneficial website for new bloggers to hop around and promote a blog I found was BlogCatalog.com. Here also, you can build a community and carry on to make friends with fellow bloggers. There are millions of blogs to chose from, and you will find it very appealing to go ahead and leave comments after reading a beautiful post where a person describes his daily routine or a great article on technical stuff. You will be pleased to see a lot of response coming instantly from other bloggers to your blog as well.
  • The first and primary lesson I guess. Never be lazy in writing a comment or following a blog if you like an article or a blog. This not only helps you build backlinks to your blog but also increases one individual who will read your blog. Bloggers have a tendency to retrace back the link and will definitely return the favor.
  • Another easy way of driving traffic I found was quite easy but I find that the method was not appropriate. I found a program on the internet where you get free traffic to your blog after you have visited a required number of websites and posted reviews on them. Since I keep track of the traffic I receive on Google Analytics, I will list out the disadvantages of such a system. The first thing, the traffic stays only till the time my blog loads into their browsers. I find that the average time people spend on my blog is very less compared to what people from other sources such as search engines or direct referrals spend. Another big disadvantage is that the number of revisiting people is very less. So I don't find this method quite relevant as it seems to bring in a lot of unwanted traffic.
  • Another way of promotion I found useful was spiral marketing of my blog. Here its a simple system, where you need to simply try and build a chain of followers after you who will promote your website for you. At first I did not believe in the system but later, as and when I saw the results from such system, I was shocked. If used in the correct way, this can be very very useful. I joined the TrafficDigger system and believe me, the response I get now after about fifteen days has been overwhelming.

To sum up, I only mention that to find a relevant, long lasting, passive traffic to your blogs or websites, use a lot of keywords, a lot of text, and a lot of good backlinks, because people prefer using the search engines to find good information and all of the above are prerequisites of SEO. Happy Blogging !!!
