Have you ever noticed how everything has its opposite? Light and darkness, hot and cold, good and evil, up and down, front a back, forward and reverse, hate and love. Have you also noticed how many of these opposites are simply the lack of their opposing twin? Darkness is a lack of light, cold is a lack of heat, evil is a lack of good, hate is the lack of love. You can’t say these in reverse. You can’t say heat is the lack of cold, of light is the lack of darkness, or good is the lack of evil.

Consider now the implication of these facts. Light must be generated, as does heat. Good is a deliberate act and love is an intentional attitude. All of these require effort either in a natural series of events, like a fire consuming paper and wood, or the fusion within the Sun, or they are the result of conscious intention.

What does this mean? It means that without CONSCIOUSNESS, the thing that makes us human, thinking beings, all is dark, cold, hateful and evil. Evil being simply the lack of good. Evil is of itself not an act or effort. It may result in actions and effort lacking in goodness and lacking in love. Love and goodness are those traits which raise our consciousness, making us aware of our connectedness, or rather they are an expression of that awareness.

So consider this: the presence of light and heat is an indication that something is making it happen. The experience of goodness and love is an indication that someone is making that happen. In both cases, consciousness is involved. We are all somehow involved in the universal power of creation which makes things happen, whether on the universal scale, the global scale, the national scale, the neighbourhood scale or the personal scale. Its our connection to one another and to the Divine Consciousness which holds this all together.

Now what does this mean for you and me? How does this affect our lives in our tiny little worlds of family, work, politics, health and wealth and whatever? Well, think of the lack. What is left when the effort required to create and produce is missing? Darkness - do you want darkness? Cold - do your want coldness? Hate - do you want hate? Evil - do you want evil? My guess is your answer to these four questions is “No”. The answer we all want is “Yes”. We want light and heat, we want good and love. But this is not a reason to point the finger to others who you think are lacking.

This is the reason for you to create and be active in producing these desirable qualities. If you want light, spread your light around you, if you want warmth, extend your friendship to many, if you want more good, then look for more opportunities to do an act of goodness, and if you want more love then give your love to all around you. That was “all around you”. Being selective will only restrict the love coming back to you. Oh yes, these probably means forgiving others for their lack of these great qualities.

Look at it this way: If some person who is expressing a lack of love and light is bothering you, its only because he or she has a lack which needs filling. So fill them up. Give your love freely. Be good and helpful without judgement. And you find your own experience filling up with all that you desire. This comes to you with love and gratitude. I am so glad we are connected.
