Depending on the natural color of your hair, and the length, you may need up to three boxes of hair color. I prefer to use the Blue Black variety because I really like the highlights of it when Im in the sun. You may also want to use a Demi or Semi-permanent hair color to make 100% sure you love the color, because once you go black, its near impossible to remove. If you have really light to blonde hair the semi-permanent may never even fade completley so keep that in mind if you decide to go black.

I have medium lenghth very thick hair, so It takes an entire box of color, I almost really could use two. So Id say if your hair is longer than shoulder lenghth, and thick, to get two boxes just in case. If your hair is middle of the back long, three. Any brand will do, black is black. Personally I use Colorsilk by clairol. Its cheap, and doesnt burn the crap out of my head.

Now the first thing you want to do is section your hair in to four sections. Then starting with the front sections, start applying at the scalp, or root area and continue through the rest of your head. Once youve applyed to the root area, you may need to open your next box of color, and apply to the length of your hair. Make sure you dont miss any spots! I usually apply, then comb it through just to be on the safe side and I never have any chunks without color at all.

Now wait the time designated in the instructions in your box, and rinse. The box will come with a little tube of conditioner, and I strongly suggest you use it. Not only will it condition your now color damaged hair, it will seal the color in making it look freshly colored for longer!

Enjoy your new hair color!
