E-Trade and Evian Babies Throwdown
65
There have always been cute corporate mascots selling everything from breakfast cereal and canned biscuits to car insurance.
But lately I am finding some of the ones that stick out the most in terms of cuteness are the E-Trade Babies and the Evian Rollerbabies, who don't sell a single baby product - Instead they sell grown-up products - Specifically, bottled water and online stock services.
Normally when commercials come on, I either change the channel or press the Mute button. But I find myself actually paying attention to these TV commercials when they come on, and actually find myself looking them up online to watch them some more. The most compelling thing about these babies is that they don't act like babies - They talk like adults and even rollerskate and breakdance, through the magic of CGI.
The E-Trade baby makin' deals with his Blackberry:
E-Trade baby's friend bursts into song with 'Broken Wings'
Evian babies bustin' some moves
All of these babies have attitude, although it's more pronounced in the Evian ads. I wouldn't mess with those little guys, that's for sure.
We are saturated with information flodding in from many sources - television, radio, internet, newspapers - And we got spoiled as entertainment became more sophisticated through the use of computer animation technologies. Factor in our need for instant gratification and you have the challenge of grabbing the consumer's attention right away and not letting them off the hook until they have watched the whole commercial. And these ads have accomplished exactly that.

Juxtaposing opposites like innocent appearance and world-weary attitude is always an advertising winner. Thanks for showing these ads, I've not seen them before. Made me giggle.
