E-mail scam:Avoiding the pitfalls
59Email Scam: Is another inherent dangers associated with internet and every greedy surfer could be a potential victim. A police detective with North wales fraud squad once opined that the internet has made it much easier for fraudster to operate. the ease with which e-mail address could be scan from website and spam messages sent using some special tools for that purpose had increased the chances of innocent and unsuspecting people falling victims of these fraudsters. Two days ago i opened my box to find some scam messages one of them carried the sacrifice beyond the shrine, with a mail that is slanderous as it is seditious. According to the writer, his conscience has pricked him so much that he has decided to pay me the sum of over $8 million, being my own spilt of a business we undertook together a couple of years, ago.

He wanted me o contact his secretary, immediately for collection of my dues, but i did not bother to heed his directives, knowing that in my almost four decides on earth, i have never had the opportunity of doing business with anybody in Naira (Nigerian currency) not to talk of hard currency like dollars.
Two salients attributes that are pertinent for a successful swindle is that the victim must be greedy and desperate. And unfortunately for the sender of scam letters into my box, i lack these two basic qualities and therefore may not be easily persuaded to respond, believing strongly that i need to work to get my wages.
The largess comes in various dimensions and from diverse sources. There are out-sized amount of proceeds accruing from "UK national lotteries". Though the wining notification comes with a semblance of the correct insignia of the UK national lottery it is with a caveat to the winner to keep the letter out of the full glare of the public. And following the above category are those seeking for assistance.
These are usually the progeny or cronies of a dead public figures whose demise through political assassination or plane crash left the children or his aides with billion of dollars in hidden coffer. The beneficiaries of such estate are either oppressed or persecuted by the powers that be, or are usually too scared to make withdrawal because of stringent government fiscal policy and would therefore require the would-be victim to provide private bank account into which the money would be lodged.
Another antics use by these scammers but similar to the one highlighted above is the one where they promised a share of cash if their unsuspecting and greedy victims, helps with the movement of dollars out of Africa. But they are then duped into handing over cash themselves to overcome an unforeseen circumstances.
In all, the amount involved is usually so large that any percentage, no matter how small is sufficient to dislodge the straight thought of a feeble minded, greed stricken individual . I am concerned about the real victims who due to their rapacious tendencies become prey to these scam e-mails.
The way out
Personally, i take solace in a Yoruba (ethnic group in Nigeria) proverbs, which translated means, "If a hen lays twenty eggs at a time and hatches the twenty o them successfully, the owner will not offer it for sale". In this proverb lies my security and in it also lies the loss of these fraudsters. In addition it is also advisable for the general public to ignore and delete any communications, whether it be e-mail or fax, they may receive purporting to come from the family or lackey of any African government officials living or dead, offering large sum of money as this could be a trap to your downfall, grief and unending sorrow. so BEWARE!!!.
