If you are running an online business, then knowing how to spot EBay top selling items could be a very important talent if you want to maximize your overall profits. After all, in a few short years this has become the most popular marketing site in the world. Literally millions of products exchange hands each and every day after being presented and sold there. However, out of all those millions of products, a very small percentage of them are actually hot selling items.

The formula is very simple to understand, but can be tricky to execute. Sellers that are successful are those who find items to sell which are popular with buyers. As a matter of fact, some hot items are so popular with buyers that they often find themselves engaged in very heavy competition to win the auctions of these hot products.

So the question is how do you find these EBay top selling items? Probably the best way is to do a lot of research on the site and find the most popular products yourself. The downside of this is that it is very time consuming. The way to do this is to use the advanced search feature and go through each and every category searching for hot items.

There are a few websites who will allow members to search through sold listings on EBay along with some feature hot product lists, but they typically charge a small fee for this service. The EBay website itself also offers Marketplace Research, which is a fee based program that will allow members to find specific products and obtain statistics about average pricing and completed sales.

The EBay Pulse is a tool is also used by lots of sellers to find popular selling items. Pulse will indicate the top ten keyword searches for each category. However, keep in mind that this only includes searches and does not include statistics about completed listings.

Another research option is to hire someone who has the experience and is pretty fluent in gathering research and finding the most popular items among EBay buyers. Some people even stroll the virtual streets of EBay and discover the hottest products that sell the quickest and for the most money.

The EBay sellers who make the most money do so by finding and selling top selling items in hot, lucrative niches. They will either do the research themselves or pay someone else to do the research for them. Selling hot products is by far most important factor when it comes to money making on eBay. Although lots of sellers make money on the site, not many of them earn a large sustained profit.

Good advice :) I have a friend who sold on Ebay, and was told that sometimes it's like a crap shoot whether your item sells or not...so is a good idea to take the time to put in the research

Lots of people don't give this a second thought, but when you factor shipping into the equation - you really need something that is in demand

Stayathomejobs - my husband is a fanatic on e-bay. We just spent the morning posting two guitars he is selling. You bring out some really good and interesting points. Niche markets are crucial no matter what industry you are in so why would e-bay be any different. I'll be following your hubs in the future to see what else you have to offer. Great hub.

Appreciate the post - you are absolutely right! Niche works much better. My wife and I are posting lots of things right now. With this economy being what it is, e-bay is a great alternative!
