EMLIN THE GREMLIN
Emlin the gremlin lived at the local dump in a very old washing machine. It was very peaceful there with no one to disturb his thoughts. The birds from the dump flew around Emlin asking him to come out and play, but he never did. He would rather sit inside his washing machine and have a cup of tea.
One day while the birds were playing, a man grabbed hold of the washing machine and put it on the back of a truck. He was very rough about it not only did he turn Emlin on his head but he made him spill his cup of tea.
“Ooohh” said Emlin bouncing all about. “What is going on around here?” The man arrived at his home and he carried the washing machine into the laundry and put it in the corner up against the wall. “There. Tomorrow I will wash my clothes” he said cheerfully. After awhile it started to get dark and it was time for Emlin to go to bed. He made himself a cup of tea and went to sleep. It was very quiet in the laundry and he could not hear any birds outside playing like the ones at the dump. “Maybe it will be alright” he thought to himself.
Next morning Emlin woke up and made himself a cup of tea. He could not hear any birds outside so he started out to have a look around but before he was finished his cup of tea, the man came in carrying all his washing. He opened up the lid of the washing machine and threw in a phooey pair of underpants right on top of Emlin and his cup of tea.
“Pooohhhh” screamed Emlin. “They stink!” .Emlin threw them out but the man just picked them up and put them back in again.
He then put more clothes into the washer and just when Emlin thought there would be no more room he poured soap powder all over his head. Emlin just sat there wishing that this would all go away but no the man shut the lid and turned on the tap. Water started pouring all over Emlin filling up his cup of tea and wetting all his clothes. As the water was rising he wondered whether he should leave but he decided to see what would happen. When at last the water stopped, the machine started to go back and forth tumbling Emlin all about his home and not only did Emlin not have his cup of tea anymore but he had big soap bubbles in his ears and his eyes hurt from all the soap powder. “I don’t know what is going on” said Emlin “But this means WAR!”
When the machine had stopped washing, it started to spin. Faster and faster it went with Emlin hanging on to the drum as tight as his fingers would let him. “Ooohh! I am getting giddy” he said as the machine flung him to one side in a corner.”I will have to stop this” he said his eyeballs going around in circles. He reach for a spanner from his tool kit and waited until the machine had reached its peak going so fast that it was nothing but a blur. Then he threw the spanner into the works as hard as he could.
BOOOMMMM! Bits of washing machine flew through the air with water pouring out all over the floor and the roof of the house jumping up with fright. The clothes poured out into the street with Emlin riding on a tee shirt pretending he was riding a wave. Emlin went back to the dump and found a large garbage can full of clothes and moved in. All the birds squawked and cheered to have him back again while Emlin did his favorite thing.
He made himself a cup of tea.
