Idli is an amazing South Indian sort of dumpling. steamed rice cake. It is made by steaming batter — traditionally made from pulses (specifically black lentils) and rice — into patties, usually two to three inches in diameter, using a mold. Most often eaten at breakfast or as a snack, idli are usually served in pairs with chutney, sambar, or other accompaniments. Mixtures of crushed dry spices such as milagai podi are the preferred condiment for idlis eaten on the go. It is recognized as one of the most healthiest foods in the world. The idli is a common fastfood available everywhere in India, especially in the states that make up South India. I cook idli in an old electric egg poacher and that works great. I also have a petite idli maker than makes cocktail size-bite size idli. I love these! Sambar can be made with various veggies and as mild or spicy as you want.

A Hindu’s grand father had a safe vegetarian food. He was able to climb hills, just like that and he had a good digestive system. He uses to have a dip in a pond and was able to keep his body cool and fit. He had sex with his wife once in a fortnight and kept his body and soul trim.


If anything is taken or enjoyed more is only to invite problems to our body and to our soul. The more the man is attracted to sex the more complexities he is inviting to his body. His mind cannot be as distilled as a pure river. He cannot concentrate fully on his job. And he will have to be a partner or a paying master to a doctor for ever.


A man who is fond of good food and eats a lot will have to accept the unwanted guests like blood pressure, sugar, and heart diseases and so on. He may get arthritis also. A man who eats more must have physical work more.

The man who do not have physical exercise and still like to eat more will have a good tummy only and his body weight will increase. A man should not eat for the sake of its taste. He should like to eat for his hunger. He must drink more water. The water content in our body is 2/3. To maintain that we should drink water aplenty. Maintain right timing and equal interval to take food. Thus timely eating man will live for long.

IDLI –RECIPE

Par-boiled rice - 3 cups urud dal - 1 cup Rinse and soak the above ingredients in water for about 2-3 hours. Then grind in a blender (with adding water in steps).Add salt and keep it aside (to get sour)for 12 hours. Take idli plates and place a drop of oil in each idli mould and spread it over the entire mould. Heat 2 cups of water in a large vessel or pressure cooker and place the filled idli plates and cover with lid. Heat in high for about 20 minutes. Remove the plates from the vessel and remove the idlis. Pour 2 tsp of sesame oil while serving. Side dish - Podina chutiny,thenga chetny,thenga milagaipodi , vengaya sambar,and so on While using pressure cooker for making idlis, the steam hole should not be covered by adding the cooker weight. Steam should escape freely


Ghee Idli Sambar


Make idlis using a idli plate for mini idlis as described in edli.While serving, soak these about 10 idlis in kuzhambu. Add 4-5 tsps of ghee to this.

Rice - 1 cup Gram dal,toor dal,urud dal in the ratio 3:3:2 - 1 cup. Rinse and soak the above ingredients for about 1 - 2 hours.Add 1/2 tsp salt, 4 whole red peppers and 1/4 tsp asafoetida and grind it coarsely.Add a few curry leaves. Grated coconut, chopped cabbage, chopped onions, chopped drumstick leaves or chopped plantain flower may be added to the flour. Heat the pan and when it is ready take this flour and make into a round flat shape.Make small holes on it using a spoon and spread oil along the edges and into the holes.Turn over until it is fully cooked. Side dish - thengachetny dippedand curd or aviyal


Aviyal Recipe


Ingredients :

 
Potatoes               3 Nos
Green Beans            few
Carrots                2 Nos
Peas                   1/4 cup
Drumstick              1 NO
Eggplant               3 Nos small
Plaintain Bananna      1/2   
Pumpkin White & orange         few pieces
Curry leaves           few
Salt                   Acc to taste
Fresh Curds            1/2 Cup
Coconut Oil            2 tbsp 
rice flour             1 tsp
 
For Grinding :
 
Fresh Coconut          1 Cup
Green Chilies          3 Nos
Fresh Curd             instead of water

Method :

 
Cut all the Vegetables to same length & size.
Boil all together in a cup of water.
Girnd Coconut & chilies .
 
Add Curd instead of water to a fine paste.

In a bowl mix rice flour,salt & the paste.
Add to Veges when the veges are cooked.
Sprinkle Curry leaves & Coconut oil when they done. 


Next is sleep. I have seen many people, take sleeping dose to have sleep. This means they are not healthy. A man who can sleep anywhere, in any bedding or in any atmosphere is the luckiest person, I say. But at the same if a man sleeps like kumbakarna, without doing his duties during day time is the loser in his life.


I have seen many who have not seen the sun rise in their life time.


Once, a friend of mine had to come with me for a seminar. I woke him up in the early morning and we started. While in the car he saw the beautiful shining sun rising. He asked me to stop the car and came out to enjoy the early morning’s original ozone breeze and the shining sun. From then on he made it a point to wake up early. It may look awkward to get up early. But once you are accustomed to this habit, every day shall be a bright day.


A child should sleep 2/3 of 24 hours.

A youth should sleep 1/4th of 24 hours.

An old man cannot sleep more than 5 hours.


Sleep is very important to us. And at the same time we should know that sleep alone will not help us to maintain our good.health .


So, if we enjoy with a limit we shall live longer.

If we eat with a limit we shall be healthier for long.

If we have sex with a limit we shall be younger.

If we sleep with a limit, we can work for long.

If we don’t have bad habits, we can think for long.


If we adopt all this god shall be within us and make us more comfortable.

It seems chutney and sambar are already written by someone and it has links. So when I wrote, it got into that link. It seems we can use only two links while we create our hug. Since the links were too many the hub pages.com objected it and warned me about it. So I had to take the phrase chutney and Sambar. That is it. Hi..........Hi..........

The joke is whenver I try to write Chutney it goes for another tag.

Similarly when I wrote Sambar it went to another link. Hubpages objected it.

Nice tips about simple living and high thinking. I just wish you would have even added Coconut chutney too. Since I love Idli/Dosa/Vada with coconut chutney. Good hub.
