I asked the company about their rice usage. This is their response.

"While many of the " Something & Rice Formulas have been recalled, like Venison & Rice, it is not the rice but the added rice gluten/rice protein concentrate or the wheat gluten. We do not use either ingredient and our rice is grown domestically in one of 3 southern states. "

Important Information:

We use three species-specific fish: anchovy, sardine and salmon, unlike "Whitefish" which is a generic name "for any specie of non-oily, white fish." It means you can't ever be sure what specie of fish is in your dog's diet. It can be different every time...like feeding a different formula each time you open a bag. Worse still, the meat fillets go to your supermarket and the head and skeleton go to dog food plants. We list our species, and we know our anchovy and sardine are low in ash and magnesium because we use the entire fish, meat and all, just like you eat from the sardine can. Our salmon is harvested wild and is not commercially raised.

The formula features oatmeal, considered a star of the health food industry. It is also a quality fiber and a hypoallergenic ingredient.

Menhaden Oil and Flaxseed enhance our Omega-Health® blend of Omega 6:3 fatty acids for an outstanding coat and healthy skin.

Farm, orchard and herb garden ingredients include human grade peas, carrots, apples, plus sun-cured alfalfa and garlic.

Like all Eagle Pack Formulas, it includes eight or more of our "Wellness For Life"® Custom Supplements, unique to Eagle Pack and setting us above all other brands.

And hypoallergenic too...because dogs have not normally been exposed to fish, these ingredients are considered hypoallergenic. Oatmeal is often recommended by holistic nutritionists for inclusion in hypoallergenic diets and shampoos.

We feed this to our cats----well, the Eagle Pack Holisitic for CATS, of course. But Im posting this here so dog owners can see my review too. I am ALSO very passionate about the pet food industry and wonder how they can get away with selling to unsuspecting (in some cases!) consumers what is the equivallent of McDonalds food for cats and dogs.

Prior to feeding with Eagle pack, we fed with what we believed was a REALLY good food---IAMS. After the recall my mom decided to switch to something holistic and tried this. Well, my cat used to have a lot of dandruff, and bald patches on her tummy. Her dandruff has now significantly reduced, and her tummy fur has grown in so thick its unbelievable!! Their coats are soft and shiny and they are doing very well. They love it lots!

I've recently heard that Eagle Pack was bought by another company and the quality has gone down. I've heard that they no longer adhere to human food grade standards in their manufacturing. Any more recent info than appears here? I currently feed Eagle Pack but am seriously considering a change to another product.
