MicroPlace – making a positive impact on the world
What is MicroPlace?
MicroPlace is an organization that is helping to alleviate global poverty by enabling individuals from around the world to make investments while helping the working poor to rise above the poverty line. Anyone can make an investment in the country of their choice. The money is loaned to individuals with a plan to begin a profitable business in their country with the understanding that they will repay the loan with interest. Isn’t this the premise of all loan organizations? However, the one difference is that they channel their efforts toward helping those in poverty who might not otherwise be able to obtain a loan.
One such loan was to a woman who used the money to purchase a sewing machine and cloth. She made clothing for local people. She was able to sell her creations, pay off the loan with interest and now makes enough money to purchase necessities for her children and send them to a local school.
What is the history of MicroPlace?
A young woman and graduate of Stanford Business School, Tracey Pettengill Turner, a social entrepreneur and seasoned business executive, learned of the concept of microfinance. She became interested in the possibilities of having an impact on poverty while blending capitalism. She felt that this prospect offered a possible solution to global poverty while maintaining the dignity of hardworking individuals.
Tracey traveled to Dhaka, Bangladesh to determine if the concept could meet the reality. She worked at the Nobel Peace Prize winning Grameen Bank for a few months and became convinced that microfinance could be extremely effective in her goal to help to diminish poverty for people world-wide.
When Tracey returned to the United States she discovered that people were beginning to view microfinance as a viable and interesting investment opportunity. There were investment limitations, which left everyday people at a loss. MicroPlace became Tracey’s vision. She was convinced that if everyday people like herself could make investments in microfinance that everyone could benefit. In 2006, ebay came onboard and it is changing the way the world is making donations and having positive impacts on the world in regards to poverty.
Earn up to 6 percent on your investment while helping people in poverty around the world.
What is the minimum donation?
The minimum amount that you may donate is a mere twenty dollars. This enables you to help others while also earning interest on your money of up to 6 percent. Everyone is seeking paths to make money. How many people can say that they are doing so and making a social impact on others’ lives?
When do I earn my money?
Similar to CDs, you are investing your money for a locked in period of time and must wait for the maturity date to earn your interest. You may however opt to invest your money for years and earn without having to add additional funds. You may also continue to invest as well and further your social impact.
Is it true that MicroPlace is an ebay company?
The executives at ebay learned of MicroPlace, felt its mission was empowering and began its linked adventure toward the common goal of connecting people of need with those desiring to make investments, earning interest and knowing they were helping others to improve their lives at the same time. That speaks win-win to me.
Does eBay make money from MicroPlace?
The ebay organization must sustain the MicroPlace website, offer consumer service and be in compliance with security regulations. MicroPlace does not charge their investors. All monies generated by MicroPlace will be utilized to support the ebay Foundation, which supports socially beneficial activities.
Is MicroPlace a member of FINRA?
MicroPlace is registered broker-dealer of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a government agency that determines the rules for the securities industry. Additionally, MicroPlace is a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA). It was created through the recent consolidation of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) and the member regulation, enforcement and arbitration operations of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). They provide compliance oversight for the SEC. MicroPlace embraces all regulations which protect all concerned.
MicroPlace is aware of the need for capital to support the poor not just through donations but by extending opportunities for people to help themselves, while helping others to yield a financial return. They are committed to the goal of alleviating global poverty by enabling the investments in the world’s working poor.
What is the risk?
While all investments carry risk, history shows that 97% of all poor people have paid back their loans with interest. This means that this same percentage received their money as well. Thus far, no institution has defaulted on their payments to the investors.

Disclosure
I have just recently learned of the organization, MicroPlace. I am just beginning my investments with this company as I felt it was a worthwhile cause. Yes, I could earn more on my investments, but I would not feel as excited about the benefits to others. Additionally, I trust that its affiliation with ebay gives it great credibility. I am not an affiliate of this organization and do not receive any compensation for promoting it.

Hi, and thanks for the fan mail. I sent you a mail a while back, saying I'd like to help promote this cause, but I think in my mail I forgot to mention *what* cause I meant -- it was this one :) . If you have suggestions to help me do that, let me know
