Your ears ringing is a warning that your body is suffering from an unhealthy condition. It has various known causes, and they are medical conditions in general. The most common cause is cochlear damage due to sudden or repeated exposure to loud noises. In fact, it is the known root cause for around 90% of the cases of ringing in th ears.

Other causes include stress, sinus problems or allergies, Meniere's Disease, age-associated hearing loss, head and neck injuries, muscle tension, thyroid disorder, vitamin B12 deficiency, hypertension, and atherosclerosis.

Many people do not know it, but there is actually a medical term for ears ringing, that is, tinnitus. It is defined as the perception of sound in one or both ears or in the head where no external source is present. It is safe to say that it is not a rare condition as around 66 million people in the United States are affected by it in one way or another. Ironically, though, majority of its sufferers do not know that it is an actual condition until they have been told so by their doctors.

In the strictest sense, ringing in the ears is not a medical condition in itself and is merely a symptom. It is one reason why its sufferers are often told by their doctors that there is no cure for it and that they would just have to learn to deal and live with it. This news may cause sufferers to get stress, worsening their tinitus.

Steps can be taken, however, for sufferers to find relief from the unwanted sound. Although not a cure, some things can be done to reduce it to ignorable, which is much like a cure as the the unwanted sound will no longer be a factor in their lives.

For starters, they have to educate themselves about the condition, from what causes it to how it can be treated. These kinds of information definitely help in the whole process of getting relief from tinnitus. Another step that should be taken is to have the root cause determined, which can be done with the help of a physician. As mentioned, ringing ear is a symptom, so the best way to treat it is to focus on its cause.

While most remedies are designed to relieve the symptoms of ears ringing, there are remedies that focus on treating its root cause and not just the symptoms. They are known as homeopathic tinnitus remedies.
