Would You Wear a Grass Bikini?

One of the fastest growing trends in fashion these days is the use of organic natural fiber materials in the manufacture of products. A wide range of things from organic wool and cotton clothing to soft as silk socks, underwear and baby clothing made from a fast growing grass known asĀ  bamboo.

Why Green Fashion?

Our world is in peril due to pollution, global climate change and unsustainable manufacturing and farming practices. Traditional farming of cotton floods the land and seas with pesticides, herbicides and other pollutants which are dangerous tou human health as well as helping to create massive dead zones in our waters in which nothing can live. A more responsible approach is needed or disaster is looming over each of us.

Each Person Can Make a Difference

The choices we make every day can have an enormous impact on our world when you multiply each decision by the millions of people making those choices. One easy way to help is by buying organic products or manufactured items created using sustainable methods. One thing that really amazed me was the variety of clothing items available in organic natural fibers.

Bamboo -soft as silk

According to the National Geographic Green Guide, bamboo is an Eco-friendly material because it's naturally pest-resistant, requires little water, is amazingly regenerative and known to grow a foot a day.

What a sustainable product bamboo is.

Growing a foot per day and using no pesticides or other harmful chemicals it is easily harvested, supplants no old forest growth and is easily made into a fabric which is soft as silk to the skin. It's the ultimate renewable resource.

Bamboo material is actually beneficial as clothing because it absorbs moisture and wicks it off the skin readily thereby reducing body odor. Bamboo cloth is also mildly anti-biotic in that it contains a substance called kun which kills the germs in the arm pit for even more protection from disease and odor.
