Earthquakes throughout The World in The Last Seven Days

Latest Earthquakes in the World - Past 7 days
Latest Earthquakes Magnitude 2.5 or Greater in the United States and Adjacent Areas and Magnitude 4.0 or Greater in the Rest of the World - Last 7 days
An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the Earth's crust that creates seismic waves. Earthquakes are recorded with a seismometer, also known as a seismograph. The moment magnitude of an earthquake is conventionally reported, or the related and mostly obsolete Richter magnitude, with magnitude 3 or lower earthquakes being mostly imperceptible and magnitude 7 causing serious damage over large areas. Intensity of shaking is measured on the modified Mercalli scale.
At the Earth's surface, earthquakes manifest themselves by a shaking and sometimes displacement of the ground. When a large earthquake epicenter is located offshore, the seabed sometimes suffers sufficient displacement to cause a tsunami. The shaking in earthquakes can also trigger landslides and occasionally volcanic activity.
In its most generic sense, the word earthquake is used to describe any seismic event—whether a natural phenomenon or an event caused by humans—that generates seismic waves. Earthquakes are caused mostly by rupture of geological faults, but also by volcanic activity, landslides, mine blasts, and nuclear experiments.
An earthquake's point of initial rupture is called its focus or hypocenter. The term epicenter means the point at ground level directly above this.
The World is getting to the stage where one can expect and Earthquake at the drop of a hat. Here are some rules you should observe: -
Prepare a Home Earthquake Plan
- Choose a safe place in every room--under a sturdy table or desk or against an inside wall where nothing can fall on you.
- Practice DROP, COVER and HOLD ON at least twice a year. Drop under a sturdy desk or table, hold on, and protect your eyes by pressing your face against your arm. If there's no table or desk nearby, sit on the floor against an interior wall away from windows, bookcases, or tall furniture that could fall on you. Teach children to DROP, COVER and HOLD ON!
- Choose an out-of-town family contact.
- Consult a professional to find out additional ways you can protect your home, such as bolting the house to its foundation and other structural mitigation techniques.
- Take a first aid class from your local Red Cross chapter. Keep your training current.
- Get training in how to use a fire extinguisher from your local fire department.
- Inform babysitters and caregivers of your plan.
The list contains all earthquakes with magnitude greater than 2.5 located by the USGS and contributing networks in the last week (168 hours). Magnitudes 4 and above are in bold font. Magnitudes 6 and above are in red. (Some early events may be obscured by later ones on the maps.)

If you have read carefully, there are only four Earthquakes of 6. I guess you should all breathe a sigh of relief and forget it, the urgency and fear that an earthquake induces in each one of us. The frightening aspect is the sheer number of Earthquakes the world has had in the seven days.
Two earthquakes rumble West Coast waters: no Tsunami warning
Tobin Dalrymple and Helen Morris, CanWest News ServiceTwo strong earthquakes erupted off of Canada's west coast in the Queen Charlotte Islands region, early Saturday.
On Saturday morning there was no Tsunami warning in effect for the area.
"We're waiting here with baited breath, three earthquakes and nothing has happened," said Bruce Turner, warning and science officer at the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center. "We're waiting for the next one but nothing's happened so maybe that's the end of It." said Turner.
At 3:01 a.m. PST, a 'quake with a magnitude of about 6.5 out of 10 occurred 215 kilometres south of Prince Rupert, B.C., according to Natural Resources Canada. A tremor earthquake followed with a magnitude of five, reported the U.S. Geological Survey.
"We issued a Tsunami information statement," said Turner. "This information statement means there's not a Tsunami but we were letting everybody know there is a pretty good sized earthquake but not to worry because it's still too small to generate a Tsunami."
Police in Port Hardy, B.C. - a community about 200 kilometres east from where the first and largest earthquake occurred - said that there had been no apparent damage or injuries as a result of the earthquake.
"Something has occurred off shore ... but I've only learned about it five minutes ago ... via e-mail from a friend," said Const. Ed Nugent, adding that he himself didn't feel it and has not heard of any emergencies resulting from the ground-rumbling phenomenon.
Turner said he is not surprised that nobody on land felt the quakes.
"These earthquakes were located out at sea probably 150 miles from either Queen Charlotte or Vancouver Island on the BC coast so they're quite a ways from land," said Turner. "These earthquakes were all pretty much the same location you wouldn't expect them to be felt very strongly.
Earthquakes are often recorded near Canada; however a magnitude of 6.5 is uncommonly high for Canadian-born earthquakes. The last five reported earthquakes in the country had magnitudes between 3.2 and 3.6.
Of the Top 10 biggest earthquakes in Canadian history, according to the government website, eight out of 10 had a magnitude from seven to ten. The eighth and ninth each had magnitudes of 6.9, occurring in the North West Territories and British Columbia, respectively.
Magnitude is a measurement of the amount of energy released during an earthquake. It is frequently described using the Richter scale. To calculate magnitude, the amplitude of waves on a seismogram is measured.
If you are a cricket fan, the Commentators are reporting on the snicker effect all the way through the game. This graph here in the cricket match illustrates the noise the ball makes as it hits the bat or the glove.

Here in Missouri we are on a major fault.A long time ago they had a major earthquake that made the mississippi river flow backwards for a period of time.
Good hub!!
Hovalis,
I do not know how I would cope.
In New Zealand we lived on the vague feat there was a fault line
They had an erution in 1931, 53 2008
So some people are born lucky and some are not. I certainly would not want to live in India
Froggy213, You could sau you had a little taste. Lets hope you nver have the real thing
well with all these info dont you think that the world is coming to an end in fulfillment of the prophecy in the Bible.Don't laugh this is serious
My thoughts agree to accept. My bible tells me God so loved the world, that he gave his only for the forgiveness of our sins.
I believe he is letting the world run down and then his son will be back on earth. He will not let the world die.
Mentally there would be no point in God allowing to be Crucified if the world was going to run out of steam
Great thought provoking Comment
I live in a place with no earthquake problems, but other calamaties are there like hurricanes and storms. I wish they had an Earthquake predictor, so they can move to safety.
They have been promised, They just did not specify when.
Let's all pray they will wake up before it is too late.
Great HUB Mr. M.
regards Zsuzsy
Thank you.
I changed the colour ink on my dell yesterday. The the trouble started. It was only printed black
When changed it did nothing. Since reading your hub I went back and played some more. I have got it printing black, which is some thing, no colour. Son three is in New Zealand. Son one did not know what I am talking about.
Tomorrow is going to come.

It's when I read things like this I am glad I live on a continent that doesn't have major fault lines, and is not on the edge of a plate. There's fewer earthquakes and no volcanic eruptions. I often wonder how people cope when they live on or near fault lines. It's scary to consider....
Great informative hub!
