Cure Chilblains Naturally

Chilblains occur when the skin is exposed to extreme cold and as such chilblains often occur on the toes and fingers predominantly although they can appear on the face too. The chilblains themselves are itchy blue or red swellings and initially, they burn and itch. They are generally very unpleasant and begin to swell if the sufferer becomes too warm, they should be treated because if left, they can become infected. Certainly prevention is the much more sensible option than trying to cure the chilblains after they occur.

It is important to keep those areas most at risk, dry and warm. There are however varying factors as to why chilblains occur such as:

  • Hormonal changes
  • Damp conditions
  • Poor circulation
  • Bone marrow disorders
  • Inadequate nutrition

It is important to always keep warmth in the body and the legs, even more so if there is a poor circulation issue. It is also important that feet are allowed to warm up naturally after having been cold; many people try to accelerate the process by placing their feet as near to a fire as possible to warm them up but, this can actually cause chilblains. Those people who endure extreme changes in temperatures should take care as those factors put them at risk.

Fortunately, there are many natural remedies which can help prevent and cure chilblains such as:

Marigold flowers

Making an infusion of marigold flowers in warm water is a soothing cure for chilblains. Add a spoonful of sea salt to the infusion also.

Potato

To soothe the redness and alleviate itching, slice a potato and then sprinkle a little salt and rub it over the chilblain.

Oatmeal Porridge

Mix up some oatmeal porridge and when cooled, dip the affected fingers in.

Meditation

Meditation is very proactive in generating inner healing and can help the body to heal specific areas. It also has the added benefits of creating sensations of tranquillity and relaxation.

Calcium

Make sure that there is enough calcium in the diet as this could be a contributory factor for chilblains.

Aromatherapy

Learn about using aromatherapy essential oils as rosemary oil and lavender oil can be quite effective.
