East and West
50Did you know there is remarkable difference between Eastern and Western thinking? We may think there is only one way of thinking, but this is not true. People have different ways of beliefs from the East to the West. The West believes more in reason, logic, and understanding while the East believes more in luck and circumstances beyond our control shape our lives. One can say the Western thinking is more scientific. It is based more on Christian values: to accept responsibility for your actions; do no one any harm and it is your duty to help the poor.Â
Eastern thinking is based more on mystical thinking: one does as they feels. They are no set rules one must follow ike faith, justice and respect for human lives. People have adopted a lot of false beliefs to excuse themselves. They abuse women and children because the men feel they are superior. They do not consider having compassion for the poor is a command from God. They believe that the poor are unfortunate and evil and deserve what they get in life. In Western thinkiing, theories must be proven to be believed as in the branches of mathematics and science. Eastern beliefs deal more with mysticism. One in which certain beliefs are accepted as normal without proof.
Any branch of science can be used to solve problems and improve life. This belief has created tremendous opportunities to advance life. New branches of knowledge have been developed. New institutions have been established as a result. This is not to say religious practice does not play an important part in Western thinking. This type of belief has defended the poor and suffering. There are laws to protect someone who wants to hurt another person and institutions set up to take care of them. Similarly, the poor are given shelter and food to help someone get over difficult times in their lives.
On the other hand, mystical thinking does not support helping the poor and suffering. It is believed that nothing can be done for someone who is in adverse circumstances. This is looked upon as luck and unfortunate. As a result, the poor are left helpless. They are being abused by people who want to take advantage of them. People decide their fate, and trample upon them. You can find this where men often abuse women and children as part of this type of thinking. Jesus condemn this type of belief and taught to follow God's laws is what is important in life.Â
Most religious thinking does not believe in hurting others Yet there is not much protection for the disadvantage. This situation is believed to be part of luck and no one has any right to even attempt to help another. As a result women and children experience a lot of violence from men by this type of thinking.
Western scientific thinking has developed many institutions to help the sick, homeless and underprivileged. This form of thinking came from Jesus who has shown time and again to care for those who cannot help themselves. As such you will find homeless shelters for abused women and children to solve problems and bring relief to them. There is special financial help for those who cannot walk or talk. All because it is important to help humanity.
New inventions were developed. The hearing aid, reading grail and the wheelchair for the handicap. Many areas of research and education continue to improve the lives of hundreds because Western thinking is programmed to understand the causes that affect humanity and to change the course of life for a better future.
Mystical thinking does not support and defend those in unfortunate circumstances. Those who are abused means they have done evil to deserve punishment. If someone is trying to overcome pain and suffering, there is no help or protection for them. There is no understanding what it means to encourage and help another. This type of mystical thinking has caused great suffering in certain society especially for women and children. You will find that the helpless are often victimized as this is attributed to luck and ill omen. Men often steal from them or deceive and cheat them, since they feel no one can judge them.
In Western thinking, Jesus blesses those who defend the helpless. However, science alone is not the answer and following certain laws. Science must be supported by religious beliefs and culture. Eastern thinking also requires scientific beliefs to strengthen culture and solve problems.
