Quick and Inexpensive

I love easy recipes. I am not the most sophisticated cook, but here is my recipe for Cheesy Jalapeno Bread. Total cost to make this should be about $7.00. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of the finished product, so if anyone tries it out, please send me the pictures!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French or "Italian" style bread - $2.00
  • 1 can of Ortega diced Jalapenos or Chilies - $1.50
  • 4-8 ounces Monterrey Jack cheese - $2.00
  • 1/2 - 3/4 cup mayonnaise - $1.50

The amounts listed above can be changed based on how cheesy or spicy you want your bread to be. If you want very cheesy bread, add more cheese and lessen the mayo. If you want spicier bread, add 1/2 can more jalapenos.

Preparation

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees
  2. Drain the can of jalapenos
  3. Cut the loaf of bread in half and place in a baking dish or on tin foil
  4. Grate the desired amount of cheese
  5. Combine mayo, jalapenos and cheese in a bowl
  6. Spread 1/2 of the mix on the top & bottom half of bread
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is crispy
  8. Broil for 2-3 minutes to make sure the cheese is melted thoroughly

Serving

  1. Let the bread cool out of the oven 10-15 minutes.
  2. Slice each half into 8 pieces and serve on a platter

Overall, this is a very easy recipe. I have taken this to family parties, and potlucks at work and it goes over very well! It also does well being reheated in the microwave, so leftovers can be placed in a Ziploc bag in the fridge for the next day.

I hope you like the recipe- Ms. Sooz
