Idaho Scalloped Potatoes

Scalloped potatoes are especially tasty with the addition of cheese. This recipe for tasty scalloped potatoes makes for good eating

Easy Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

6-8 potatoes, peeled and sliced into rounds

1 cup of chopped or sliced onions

White Sauce:

3 tbsp. butter

3 tbsp. flour

2 cups milk

Add:

paprika

seasoning salt

salt and pepper

onion powder

----------------------------------------

1-2 cups grated cheddar cheese

1/2-1 cup of bread crumbs

Method for Scalloped Potatoes:

Grease a casserole dish and layer in potatoes and onions.

Melt the butter and whisk in the flour. Add the milk and simmer until white sauce is thickened. Add seasonings (to taste) and stir in half the cheese. Pour sauce over potatoes and top with remaining cheese. Sprinkle bread crumbs over top of scalloped potatoes.

Bake uncovered until browned and crispy.

The addition of bread crumbs to these scalloped potatoes adds a pleasing crunchiness.

Additional Ingredients

  • Finely chopped green onions are a good garnish if you have them on hand.
  • Precooked and crumbled bacon can also be added 10 minutes before removing scalloped potatoes from the oven.
  • For a smoky flavor, mix bacon bits with barbeque sauce before sprinkling over scalloped potatoes.

Potatoes are a versatile vegetable and make for a good main course meal, such as scalloped potatoes, or are suitable as side dishes to accompany meals.

Hi Mimi,

Scalloped potatoes usually take an hour or more depending on oven temperature. 350 degrees is a good temperature.
