When you are constipated all that you want are some constipation remedies, it can be an unimaginably uncomfortable and even painful time for you. Constipation happens when feces is unable to properly pass through the lower intestines and out of your body. When you are constipated you can feel constantly uncomfortable and bloated. It can be extremely frustrating to be unable to have a bowel movement when you feel that you desperately need one.

What Causes Constipation

The definition of constipation is not having a bowel movement for anywhere from one to three weeks. This varies by person as some may normally only defecate every few days, while others may go multiple times a day. Just because you haven't gone to the bathroom as regularly as you are used to does not mean that you are constipated. On very rare occasions constipation can be caused by an intestinal blockage but more often than not constipation is caused by diet.

Having a low fiber diet is the main cause of constipation brought on by poor diet. There are some other foods that have been known to cause constipation. Here is a list of foods that may increase your chances of becoming constipated, some of which may surprise you.

The Best Constipation Remedy

Don't worry we will go over some natural and medical constipation remedies further down in this post, but for now... The best out of all the constipation remedies is prevention. What I mean by prevention is, if you know that all most all of the time constipation is caused by diet and a low fiber diet can be the main cause... Make some changes to your diet.

These changes can be simple and not life altering. Eat some more vegetables or have a bowel bran flakes for breakfast. Stay away from fast and processed foods for a while. If you begin to have a laps in resolve and feel like ordering a pizza instread of eating a healthy dinner, think about how terribly uncomfortable you will be when you become constipated. These are all small changes that can greatly decrease your risk of becoming constipated.

Foods That Cure Constipation

  • Fresh fruits
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Cereals high in fiber (bran flakes, fiber one, rasin bran)
  • Hot water, hot coffee or hot tea (this can stimulate the bowls and produce a movement)
  • Aloe vera juice (this may cause some slight cramping but will produce a bowel movement overnight)
  • Prunes or prune juice (Age old remedy for constipation)

Enemas

Hey I understand, you're not a naturalist. You are constipated and you don't care why. You just want some information on how to stop being constipated and will worry about constipation prevention later.

A sure fire way to elevate your constipation is a good old fashioned enema. Enemas will quickly and fairly easily clear your bowels and end your discomfort. There are several types of enemas, the choice as to which one to use is up to you. They all pretty much have the same effect and end result.

Coffee Enema – Coffee enemas are excellent for cleansing the liver. Caffeine will be absorbed by the liver forcing it to produce more bile. The bile will help to flush out the small intestine. Coffee grounds should be used to make this solution as opposed to instant coffee.

Yogurt Enema – Yogurt enemas are excellent because the natural live bacteria that lives in yogurt will help to break down and cleanse the bowels of backed up fecal matter.

Lemon Juice Enema – Made up of one part lemon juice and four parts water, this solution will do the job quickly but may cause some cramping.

Epsom Salt Enema – Epsom salt will increase the moistness of the intestines making them more easily move the blockage, similar to a laxative.

Salt and Soda Enema – This solution will give your colon a kick and force out all of the waste. Add a little bit of sea salt and baking soda into a cup of water.

Glycerin and Mineral Oil Enema – Two quarts of water and two table spoons of salt, mineral oil and glycerin make one of the most effective enemas around.

As for the actual enema (the tube, bag and insertion tool) they can be purchased to a very low price, no more than two dollars, at you local supermarket.

Constipation Warning

If you have tried everything and still haven't had a bowel movement in an alarming amount of time, three weeks or so for most, you should contact a medical professional as soon as possible to avoid further complications.
