Homemade Dog Food
By now you've certainly heard of the pet food recalls of recent months. They were terrifying for any pet owner. As a result of these recalls, many people have turned to the creation of their own homemade pet food as a way to better ensure the safety of their beloved pets.
But before you turn to making your own dog food, you should know that you must be very careful what you put in your homemade dog food. Some veterinarians are very worried about the state of canine health as more people start making dog food instead of buying it.
When made correctly, commercial dog food has all of the proper nutrients dogs need. It doesn't have any added ingredients that can harm dogs. Unfortunately, some of the homemade dog food recipes that are available on the internet are quite bad for your dog, or even dangerous!
Before you use ANY of the dog food recipes you find, PLEASE consult with your dog's veterinarian. Your vet will be able to tell you if any of the ingredients might be harmful to your dog, and whether the recipe is adequate in the nutrition your dog needs.
URGENT NOTE: Many dog food recipes contain garlic or onions. Onions can be toxic in dogs. DO NOT USE ONIONS IN YOUR HOMEMADE DOG FOOD RECIPES!
