Easy as 1-2-3

Embellishing cakes and cupcakes has never been easier. While shopping in Michael's one day, I came upon prepackaged sugar flowers. They cost about $4 for 8 inch flowers. For that same price I could make literally dozens of fondant flowers myself. So I purchased a affordable daisy cutter set and was on my way to bakers heaven. Achieving beautiful fondant flowers is quite attainable. Here are a few simple steps.

1. There are a variety of fondants on the market today. Wilton sells premade fondant in white and primary colors. Another option is making your own fondant. Marshmallow fondant is quite easy to make. I have included a great tutorial video below.

2. Dust your surface with cornstarch or powdered sugar and roll fondant to 1/8 inch.

3. Wilton sells many fondant cutters. Simply press cutter into fondant and remove.

4. The last step involves embellishment. A simple toothpick is all I use to achieve veining in my flowers. I also use lustre and pearl dust to achieve a beautiful sheen and shimmer. Some people even use non-toxic sidewalk chalk to shade and color their fondant flowers.

5. Place fondant in a drying cup or on cornstarch dusted wax paper and let dry.
