As the weather changes and the air cools it makes me reach for my favorite comfort foods. Like me the kids love to cook.

This is a easy to make family favorite snack for the cold weather days.

  • 1/3 cup raw unpopped popcorn
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup

Popcorn:

In a large pan with a lid heat oil. DO NOT ADD SALT OR BUTTER. If you do the candy will not form as well.

Put 3 Kernels in in the pain. When they start to pop the oil is ready. Put the rest of the popcorn in the pan and cover. Move pan back and forth over burner to keep popcorn from burning.

When the popcorn is done set it aside to cool

Candy:

In a small saucepan add sugar and corn syrup. Stir constantly when candy boils and starts to thicken up poor over the popcorn.

*Warning* this is hot! I mean REALLY HOT

Stir the candy over all of the popcorn until it is completely covered. Let the candied popcorn set until it is cool enough to touch. Be Careful! you can burn yourself on the popcorn!

The Fun Part:

I like to let the kids help in this part!

With buttered hands (to keep hands from sticking.) form the candied popcorn into small to medium balls. Place the balls on a cookie sheet to cool completely.

Depending on the size of the balls you make how many you get. I get about 12 most of the time. Once cool it is a fun snack to share while there is a fire in the fire place!
