Before we get started with the instructions to knitting, you may be wondering what I-cord is. I-cord is a knitted cord used for all types of embellishments to your knitting projects. Here are just a few ideas:

Edging - The edging can be applied or sewn on with contrasting yarn for extra interest

Trim on pockets - This looks really cute on children's sweaters

Purse straps - Knit a rectangle of fabric and use I-cord for the handles.

Knots - Add texture with knots of different sizes

Follow these easy knitting instructions to make this wonderfully useful cord


Step #1 -- Cast on 3, 4, or 5 stitches using double pointed knitting needles. Don’t turn.

Step #2 -- Slip the stitches back to the beginning of the needle and knit the row again.

Step #3 -- Keep doing this until you have a short length of knitting. When you have a short length, pull down on the cord and the gap at the back will close.

Step #4 -- Knit until you have the length of I-cord you need for your project.
