When I was a child, I learned how to make my grandmother's meatloaf. A lot has changed, and the recipe has been modified to fit me, but it is still the same basic recipe. I will share it with you.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup TVP (textured vegetable protein)
  • Seasonings: garlic powder, pepper, onion salt to taste
  • 1 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 3 Tbsp. sugar
  • 3 Tbsp. white vinegar
  • 3 Tbsp. worcestershire sauce
  • Some more seasonings in the sauce

Mix the ground beef and TVP thoroughly together. Mold into a loaf and place in baking sheet. Put in 350 oven.

Mix ketchup, sugar, vinegar, worcestershire and seasonings (to taste) to make sauce. Spoon sauce over loaf, using approx 1/4. Continue adding more sauce about every 15 minutes. Bake loaf for an hour to an hour and 20 minutes.

My grandmother's recipe included oatmeal instead of TVP, and used minced onion in both the loaf and the sauce.

Enjoy!
