An Education in Search Engine Optimization Is Easy

SEO isn’t as hard as you might think. The basics of search engine optimization are mostly common sense. As long as you’re building your site correctly and using proper linking structure, SEO can be very simple.

You don’t have to get into anything “black ha.t. You don’t have to do any spamming. You don’t have to do anything sneaky or advanced unless you’re trying to rank for extremely popular keywords.

What search engines like Google are looking for is quality content, well-organized site structure, and whether or not people seem to like a site. If a lot of sites are linking to a page, it probably means the page is of top quality. People don’t generally link to sites that are low quality, except perhaps to make an example of how bad a page is.

SEO is simpler than most SEO experts would like you to believe. You have to provide content that will attract both search engines and links. If you only provide content that’s optimized for search engines and provides no real human value, no one is going to want to link to it.

Without links, it’s very difficult to rank well. If you provide content that’s of exceptional value to readers, but you don’t use proper easy SEO techniques, it will be harder to attract search engines.

The key is to provide both.

Your site needs to be like a magnet that constantly works to attract both search engine spiders (or robots) and backlinks. Use SEO best practices, but also make sure your content is worth reading and linking to.

Getting SEO Backlinks

Easy SEO Means Cracking the Search Engine Algorithm

For easy search engine optimization, you don’t have to know how every detail of their algorithms work, but you do need a basic background on how search engines rank sites. Each search engine is different, so most people work toward optimizing for Google.

Once you rank well on Google, it’s more likely that you’ll also rank well on other major search engines. It’s pretty easy to stay on top of current search engine algorithms by either joining some of the major SEO forums on the Internet, or by doing some careful research yourself.

You’ll need to perform some in-depth analysis of the sites that rank well for the keywords you wish to rank for. Look at their title tags to see what their keyword density is. Find out what type of linking structure they’re using.

Find out how many backlinks they have, what anchor text most of their links are using, and where those links are coming from. Basically, you’ll want to make a list of factors that can help you rank, and then document all of those factors for the top ranking site.

Then you’ll move to the next site, and the next. You’ll probably want to analyze at least 5 of the top 10 results. Once you’ve documented the various factors, you just need to look at what each site has in common.

Do they all use very similar anchor text for their links? Do they all have links from certain sites? Do they all have the keyword in their title tags? You should start noticing a pattern, or perhaps a few patterns. Then you’ll be able to more accurately determine what that search engine’s algorithms are currently looking for.

Easy SEO - Silo Structured Sites

Silo Structures and LSI – SEO Made Easy

Several years ago it was very easy to rank well in the search engines by simply repeating the same keywords over and over in your title, meta tags, and text. There was no need to worry about links to your site for anything other than traffic.

You didn’t have to worry about much of anything other than your title, meta tags, and keyword density. These days things are a little different. They’re not harder. In fact, in many ways it’s actually easier than it used to be, because fewer people really understand these new easy SEO techniques because they don’t take time to educate themselves about it.

A lot of people are still trying to depend on things like keyword density, which means less competition in the long run. Latent Semantic Indexing (or LSI) is a complex system. It would take a lot of time to explain it in depth, and most people wouldn’t really understand it thoroughly anyway.

All you really need to know is that LSI refers to website themes. If your site is about Tiger Woods, the search engines will expect to see words and phrases such as “golf,” “golfing,” “PGA,” and “golf balls.”

If those words aren’t present, the search engines might believe your site is about large cats in a forest! Silo structure refers to building sites that are structured in a particular way. Your site’s main index page leads to smaller sites within a theme, and those sites would be categories hosted on the same domain.

If your site was about boats, your categories might be “canoes,” “yachts,” and “schooners.” Each one of these categories would be in a directory on your site, and they would all be set up like their own little website, with only articles about that particular type of boat. This makes your site appear to be an authority site in that niche.
