Easy Stir Fry Recipe
77
Tired of the same old dinners? Want to make a healthy meal, which is economical as well?
I love ordering Chinese food to go, and enjoy Chinese food in general, but sometimes it is quite costly. Here is a low cost and quick recipe that you can try at home.
How easy is it to make stir fry? I received a wok as a present some time back, and it is so simple to make stir fry - just put your wok over a stove burner, and you are on your way.
I find that a traditional frying pan was hard to use before, all my ingredients kept getting tossed over the side due to lack of room!

Quick stir fry - Ingredients
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 bags of frozen vegetables (I usually get two different varities, like one bag with red peppers/carrots/snow peas and one bag with a broccoli/water chestnuts/onions)
Seasonings
- Ginger
- Garlic
- Fresh ground pepper
- SpikeĀ® Vege-Sal (I use this in place of regular salt)
- Celery Seed
Meat
- Chicken
- Pork
- Shrimp
Meatless
- Tofu
Other
- Olive oil
- Chinese crunchy noodles
- Rice
Directions:
- Add some olive oil, and heat up the wok.
- Add the add your spices, and mix with a wooden spoon.
- Add you meat or tofu (cut up into thin strips, or bite sized pieces).
- When the meat is mostly cooked, add the frozen veggies.
- I usually add a dash of water after I put the vegetables in, let sit on medium for 5 minutes, then stir the mixture in my wok with a wooden spoon.
Note: It is important to start your rice (takes 15-20 minutes), when the oil starts to heat up, so you can time both together (rice and stir fry).
If you are using brown rice (which takes about 45 minutes), make sure to start the brown rice first.
Serve with Chinese crunchy noodles and soy sauce.

The best meatloaf recipe ever!
Here is a delicious and moist meatloaf recipe I learned from my grandma.
Using fresh vegetables
You can also make stir fry using all fresh vegetables, but that gets quite expensive - especially the red peppers, not to mention it can be time consuming to cut up a lot of veggies.
Preparation Time: 25-30 minutes
Cooking Time: 20 minutes
By all means, if you have the money and time, I would suggest you buy fresh veggies. Fresh red and green peppers, onions, celery, water chestnuts, carrots, and broccoli, are wonderful additions to a healthy (and colorful) stir fry.
Note: With fresh vegetables, it is important to remember to add the ones that require the least cooking (ie mushrooms) last.
A Christmas Story - Chinese food for Christmas dinner
And ... to add a little humor to my hub, do you remember the movie A Christmas Story? There is one humorous scene where the neighbor's dog ate the family's Christmas turkey, so the family ends up having Chinese food at "Chop Suey Palace" with the waiters singing Christmas carols off-key. Chinese food for Christmas - why not?
I love it, especially stir fry.
Take Aways
Another point to consider, if you add your own spices, the flavor is so delicious, that you do not need soy sauce. However, I recommend having soy sauce available to serve to your guests or family.
And the best thing about leftover Chinese food, is that the flavor from the sauces soaks into the veggies and meat, and it tastes great the next day.
Enjoy!

Bonnie, thank you for your comment. This one sure is easy to make. I am glad you like it!
I like to throw in some shelled soybeans, as well, to get that great rice-and-beans complete-protein-combo thing going on. Woks rock! (It had to be said...)
Thanks very much for sharing the "write a hub on economical vacations" suggestion in the forum thread. I will do that!
Nice to meet you!

YourTouristGuide, thank you for your comment - shelled soybeans sounds wonderful, too. I love woks too, they are the best.
I look forward to reading your hub!
One thing I should mention too, is go easy on the Vege-Sal (or salt), since someone might want to pour a lot of soy sauce on the stir-fry after after it is served. You can always add more salt later.
