Some Easy Tips to Buy a Laptop

If you have every been on the market for laptops, you know that there is an ample gamut of options for laptop buyers. Everything ranging from processor speed, to screen size and storage capacity can be configured.

Thus, it is sometimes difficult to see, among the several options available on the market, the one that can give you the best results for way you need.

I will give you a list of potential ways to buy a laptop that are both easy and simple to implement. If you do your research on the web or even by going to stores selling laptop computers, you should be aware of at least some of the features that I will discuss in the following sections.

Buying a Laptop for Work

If you are buying a new laptop for your work needs, you should be aware that the most important thing for laptops at work is the main memory available. One thing that you don’t want to have is a laptop computer that will become sluggish once you start cranking out a report while several other applications are open.

The way to have several programs open at the same time in a laptop is to have enough main memory to support the applications. These days, 2 Gigabytes is already the standard, don’t buy anything with less than 2 Gigabytes, unless it is a very cheap sub-notebook (also known as netbook).

Also, you should be aware of the connectivity for this laptop. Since you will probably need to travel with this machine, it is advisable that there are several ways to connect to the external world. At least one port for the Ethernet card, one port for a modem (they are outdated, but still useful), and finally enough USB ports so you can use a memory stick, for example.

Buying a Gaming Laptop

On the other hand, you may be more interested in having a gaming machine, a computer that you can use to play with your friends or by yourself.

Such laptop computers are special because they need a lot of power. While a computer for work doesn’t need to have all this processing capacity, it is absolutely necessary that your gaming laptop have a very fast processor.

Another important requirement for a gaming laptop is, of course, having a great graphics card. Most common laptops are created with graphics card that are just barely enough to supply the needs of Windows. On the other hand, if you are serious about playing with your computer, you need a really fast graphics card to get all the juice from your game.

Gaming laptops are at sale in many web sites. However, you have to keep in mind that they are usually more expensive than common laptops, for the reason that I just mentioned above. There are some things, however, that are unimportant when you are buying a gaming laptop. For example, you need to worry about buying productivity software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel: you will not be doing work on this computer anyway.

Of course, the amount of money you will save with productivity software will be probably less than you have to spend with games. There are thousands of games on the market these days, and good gamers like to play a lot of them. You will end up spending a lot of money, but for many people this is money well spent.
