#1 Cleansing the face

Everyone knows the importance of keeping the pores of the skin unclogged and clean. The best obvious way is to wash your face. Even a mild soap can be too harsh to use. Especially with all the make-up that seems to be the norm for all to wear now-a-days. Here are a couple of suggestions that you might want to use on a regular basis.

For cleaning off the make-up and daily grime use pure and plain cucumber water. To make a supply of cucumber juice take 2-3 ripe cucumbers and puree them skin and all in a blender till they're as smooth as can be. Now either pour paste into a cotton bag and hang it somewhere to drip over a bowl this can take several hours, or use a strainer. Once the paste feels dry you'll need to let the juice drip through a coffee filter. The cucumber water will last in the fridge up to a week.

To use: invest in a couple of face cloths that you only use for your face. Dampen the facecloth with hot water as hot as you can stand on your hands. Pour 1/2 oz of cuke juice onto it and gently wipe away the days mess from face and neck.

If you have a combination skin, oily in certain spots and dry in others try this:

Dab plain tomato juice onto the oily parts with a cotton ball. Leave on for 10 minutes. Simultainiously dab onto the flaky dry areas a mixture equal amounts of almond oil and rosewater. Leave this on for 5 minutes. Now rinse face with luke- warm water and pat dry.

#2 Moisturizing the face!

Now for the moisturizer recipe.

I love the feel of my face after I cleaned it with the cucumber juice. But naturally the skin cells need to be 'fed' if they're to stay elastic, smooth and soft.

This following recipe can be used on all types of skin. For regular skin just use it right after cleansing. For dry and combination skin follow the second step in the previous paragraph. Then follow with this recipe. Try using it as an 'underlay' before applying make-up. Warning: Before you use any products store bought or home made make sure to test it on your skin. Try it out alone and in a combination on your underarm just above the elbow. The skin is almost as sensitive there as on your face.

Ingredients:

1 oz beeswax

2ozs of glycerine (glycerin is an important ingredient as it is able to pull moisture from the air thus keeping skin moisturized)

12ozs Almond oil

3ozs rosewater

10 drops of rose essence, lavender or any other favorite fragrance

4 drops of Roman Chamomile (also known as double or common) essential oil

3 drops of ticture of benzoin ( this will keep the essential oils from evaporating quickly)

Methodology:

In a double boiler combine wax and almond oil. Stir continuously with a wooden or stainless steel spoon. When they're melted and amalgamated together add glycerine and rosewater. Keep stiring until cooled. Now comes the tinture of benzoin stirring it in really well. Have a container with tight fitting lid ready. Quickly stir in the essential oils. (remember essential oils a volatile and they will evaporate if not covered).

Set moisturizer aside for two days and then use sparingly on face and neck.

You can also add a combination of scents if you prefer.

Unfortunately essential oils can be costly but if the bottles are kept in a cool dark place they will last for a long time. And as you only use a few drops at a time you will be able to make many batches of creams, lotions and body splashes too.

I had an e business called Nature's Encore (hence the user name), selling handmade soaps, lotions, etc. a few years ago. I absolutely loved discovering new, natural remedies and unique herbal recipes to incorporate into my products.

I always felt like a mad scientist when creating the soaps. The cold process method requires protecting clothing, goggles and long rubber gloves to ensure the lye does you no harm.

http://www.snowdriftfarm.com/formulary.html This is a resource I use regularly. I thought you might enjoy it, too.

Thank you for publishing this hub. I will be adding your recipes to my personal collection, and testing them out in the near future.

Angela! What made you stop your business? I'm not into starting another business right now but my friends alone keep my in the 'mess' of things so to say. It seems that every other day I get an order for this or that. I've been making them personalized lotions and body splashes etc. Thanks for sharing those sites I will check them out right now.

kindest regards Zsuzsy

Zsuzsy Bee - after making soap, I would like to make my own moisturizer and this recipe sounds great. I've written it down and hope to try it soon. My essential oil source does not carry chamomile essential oil. I've never heard of it. I see you have it up there in the amazon ads, but it's mixed with lavender.

Dolores, there are mainly two types of chamomile essential oils used, Roman and German (Maroccan is also available but does not work as the other two)

Roman Chamomile Essential Oil(Anthemis nobilis)light gray or blueish

German Chamomile Essential Oil(Matricaria chamomilla) it's a deep blue in color XXXX I use either German or Roman for skin care products XXXX

The German one is the more expensive of them all German 1 oz about $112

Roman about $100 per 1 oz the Maroccan $50 also for 1 oz...

Reputable dealers will have all of them available.

I hope this helps

regards Zsuzsy
