How It Works

Sounds impossible, doesn't it? Eat fat and still lose weight - but not only is it possible, for some people, it's the only way to lose weight. There are a number of conditions which cause a resistance to weight loss. That condition, called "metabolic resistance to weight loss," simply means your body fights against the process of shedding unwanted fat. There can be a variety of causes from taking certain medications to hormonal imbalances to simply having a slow ability to burn off fat. But you can lose weight. There is something you can do about it.

Glucose is what the body burns for energy. Everything you eat is changed by your digestive system into glucose, except fat. When you eat, say a doughnut, your system releases insulin. The job of insulin is to change the doughnut, or what's left of the doughnut after your stomach gets through with it, into usable fuel for your blood, muscles, and body cells.

Eating Fatty Foods Instead of Carbs

The higher the carbohydrate content of food, the faster and easier it is to turn into blood sugar. If you eliminate carbohydrates and proteins, or severely limit them from your diet, your body doesn't have any immediate energy source, so you force your body to start burning stores of fat. The technical term for this is lipolysis. It's not a dangerous condition, although before you start any diet program you should check with your doctor. The problem is when your brain starts detecting low blood sugar it starts signaling your stomach that you're hungry.

If you consume fatty foods, such as butter, olive oil, mayonnaise, sour cream, and heavy cream, your brain is happy because your stomach is full. Fat takes quite a bit longer to digest than either protein or carbohydrates. It doesn't enter the blood stream as glucose, so your body starts using its fat stores for energy.

Jumpstart your weight loss program by eating fat and cutting way back on carbohydrates and protein. Keep your minimum calorie consumption at about 1000 per day. Don't consume less than that or your body may think you're starving and decrease your metabolism.

Here are a few suggestions to get you going: egg salad made with eggs and mayonnaise, chicken salad made with white chicken meat and mayonnaise, or steak served with béarnaise sauce. Béarnaise sauce is primarily eggs and butter.

This isn't a safe regimen for the long term but it will boost your weight loss program and get you going. Eating fat can actually help you lose weight.
