I work in a nursing home part time and it is frustrating to watch a patient try to eat as they are having trouble picking up there food. I believe it is great that they have came out with awesome eating utensils for the elderly and handicap patents. Its natural for a person who is healthy to not think of every motion as they pick up there utensils to eat there food.

Physical disabilities can interfere with daily activities such as eating and drinking. Conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple Sclerosis can make it hard to move your fingers properly. Elderly patients and those with disabilities can use special utensils that can help. Silverware with large handles or with weights can help. Using the right equipment can make the person feel less dependent on the caregiver. Over size handled utensils can help reduce pain from arthritis in the fingers and hand, which increases there independence and enhances there Quality of Life. Quality of Life has to do with basic functioning, such as eating. If they are having trouble eating, new utensils can help which promotes healthy eating.

One thing people should know about purchasing eating utensils is to stay away from inexpensive utensils that will break over time. I recommend purchasing stainless steal utensils. People who have limited hand movement can benefit from these Comfort Grip Curved Utelsils. The utensils increase independence for the elderly and disabled.

Amazon also sells nosey cups. It has been determined that drinking with your head down reduces the risk of choking in dysphagic patients. This two-handled cup helps the elderly to drink with independence. It has a cut-out for the patients nose so the cup can be tipped so the patient can drink with there chin down.

The comfort grip utensils are awesome. When we first moved my grammy into a nursing home she was unable to feed herself due to her arthritic hands and dementia. A friend suggested trying the comfort grip utensils out and they work really well!

These tools are great for some children. I have used them with students who are moderate to profoundly mentally challenged and have had mixed results. The student muust be ready to use the tool and be willing to try to use the tool for it to be really effective. Great Hub!!!

You do write well, as for the utensils that's a nifty product they came out. I use to volunteer in a nursing home growing up, mostly for the free snacks I got, and being the bingo caller...lol. My mum was a nurses aid, so I was always there.
