About Edmond Fitness at Crossfit OKC

A workout gym unlike any other, Crossfit OKC is located in Edmond, OK and serves Edmond and north Oklahoma City with fitness plans, workout programs and personal trainers.

But how are they different?  The Crossfit  program’s specialty is that they don’t in fact specialize.  They believe that the needs of athletes differ only in scale, not by kind of exercise.  So a terrorist hunter, a police sergeant, a SWAT team member and a housewife can all benefit from the same program, adjusted by workload to suit each individual.  Even professional boxers and mixed martial artists have used the Crossfit program to hone their skills and get ready for their next battle.

Crossfit posts what they call the Workout of the Day (WOD) on their website every day.  Users typically follow one of two routines:  1) 3 days on, one day off, or 2) 5 days on, two days off.  The website also offers a discussion board where users can interact and ask questions about workouts, diet and nutrition and other health topics.

The goals of the Crossfit training regiment are to gain lean body mass, lose body fat and build muscle mass.  Crossfit OKC also offers seasonal training programs, such as training to learn how to be a runner, training to run a marathon, training to be certified as an Olympic weightlifter, running and endurance certification and a variety of other topics and programs.

Many of the daily workout routines are named after girls.  As an example, you may be doing the Angie, the Barbara, the Cindy, the Diane, the Fran or a host of other workouts.  The Angie workout consists of 100 pull-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 pushups and 100 squats.  The Cindy is a timed workout where you race through as many sets of 5 pull-ups, 10 pushups and 15 squats as you can within the time allowed.  Crossfit OKC also names several of their workout routines after war heroes, such as the J.T., in honor of Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Taylor, 30, of Little Creek, VA, who was killed in Afghanistan June 2005.

Another workout is named after a fallen firefighter.  The “Ryan” is named in honor of Maplewood, Missouri Firefighter, Ryan Hummert, 22, who was killed by sniper fire July 21st 2008 when he stepped off his fire truck responding to a call.

On the second Saturday of every month, Crossfit OKC offers a free workout at Lake Hefner at 1pm.  Exit Britton Road from I 44 and go West on Britton (It turns into East Wharf Dr) until you come to the stop sign at Lake Hefner Pkwy. Turn right (North) on Lake Hefner Pkwy(Louie's Restaurant) and go . 4 miles to the first parking lot. Look for the orange wind cone blowing in the breeze to your left (West).

Jason Boag is the owner of Crossfit OKC.  He’s a Level 2 Crossfit trainer.  Jason has an associate's of Arts and Science degree from Olympic College in WA State. He is certified through CrossFit, NASM, and APEX.  Jason is 25 years old, married, and resides in Edmond, OK.  His interests include crossfitting, rock climbing, riding motorcycles, construction (all types), anything to do with a board under his feet, and playing with his two dogs, Mac and Noel.
