Education and the Middle Class Family

I hope that in writing this I do not tick a lot of people off, but sometimes maybe we need to offend some to get a conversation started.

I have a daughter in Elementary school and one in Middle school. Both do very well in all their subjects, but here recently both have complained of some boredom due to the increase in repetition in their classes. You see we live in a county where the school system has FAILED the requirements (three years in a row) of the No Child Left Behind Act. So my husband and I received a letter from the school board that listed a variety of "rights" that we and our children have.

For example, We have the right to transfer to an adjoining county school system (No adjoining school system will accept our county school kids). We have the right to request tutoring for our child (You have to currently be in poverty level to be eligible). You have the right to after school programs for booster education (again, only if you are in a lower financial class). You have the right to free Summer education (remember financial class).

So basically I realized that we or our children do not qualify for anything. If you make $5.00 over a specific financial class, you are not helped in any way. You are basically stuck with the current school system and the NEW way of teaching in repetition to help the children who either have a more difficult time learning, are not as motivated in learning or have parents who do not help their kids with homework. So there my child sits in a class where the Teacher goes over and over the same thing so that All the kids will do well on the test scores. There my child sits with time to do worksheets or homework while the teacher goes over and over the same lesson plan.

Now I do not necessarily blame all teachers, after all they are under a tremendous amount of pressure to get the job done. But what kind of a system is this! If anyone has the answer please let me know. The only option we see is Private school and that is extremely costly in our area, beside the fact that that seems ludicious with the amount of taxes we pay. I could go on and on about this but I will end it for today. Of course tommorow is a new day.
