Alcohol is absorbed in the bloodstream through the walls of the stomach and small intestine. About 5% to 10% of alcohol are being eliminated from the body through urination, perspiration and exhalation of air, the rest is metabolized in the liver, where it is converted to acetate. About 15% of the acetate is used by the body to form proteins, carbohydrates, and fats; the rest is used as a source of energy and is later expelled as water and carbon dioxide. Metabolism of alcohol is affected by different factors

Like; body weight, age, sex, and the presence of drugs in the body, and food in the stomach. The person will become intoxicated when the rate of consumption exceeds the rate of metabolism. There is about 100 calories in ½ ounce (15ml) of alcohol.
