So what are anti aging treatments good for?Do you long to be forever young? Or do you just wish that there was some way for you to slow down the hands of time, even for just a while? Do you just wish those pesky wrinkles will go away? Aging is inevitable but only few are willing to embrace this fact. That is why the fountain of life is such an attractive prospect. However, it seems that this will remain a legend. But there is no need to despair. Although we could not totally avoid the ravages of time on our faces and bodies, with the right diet and lifestyle, we can minimize the effects of aging. We can live well into the years and at the same time enjoy an active and (relatively) healthy life while maintaining a youthful looking appearance.

Of course, there are the common guidelines about eating right, eating less (caloric restriction), taking your vitamins, getting the right exercise and avoiding bad habits such as smoking and excessive drinking. But there are still other treatments (specifically for the skin and the face) that target the delay of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly in the area of the forehead, the eyes and the sides of the mouth.

To erase the fine lines and wrinkles that have crept into your face, you can resort to cosmetic surgery. However, with the advent of technological innovations, there are some anti-aging treatments that are non-invasive and less painful than surgery. Indeed, skin renewal treatments may very well produce better results with less sacrifice in terms of pain and expense.

Here is a list of some of these treatments:

Botulinum Toxin Wrinkles, begone! Known as Botox, or Myobloc and Dysport, this is a popular option for erasing the lines caused by frowning and smiling. Botulinum toxin works by relaxing the muscles so that, with a few treatments, you can say bye-bye to crow’s feet, frown lines and wrinkles on the neck and forehead.

Thermage This makes use of radio frequency waves. It promotes collagen contraction and also the continuous production of collagen. The effects of this treatment can last for as long as four to six months. Aside from wrinkles, it can also get rid of warts, surface blood vessels (the small ones) and moles.

Plasma Skin Resurfacing This involves giving controlled damage to the skin, so that it responds by producing collagen and promoting healing. This is done by using an ionized gas (plasma) that helps in the peeling of the skin without burning it. As a result, the skin will peel about four days after the treatment and will result in a rejuvenated skin that is brighter and free not just of wrinkles, but also of skin lesions, scarring caused by acne and sun damage. You should allow about two weeks or a month for the “wounds” to heal completely.

Intense Pulsed Light Light of varying wavelength and intensity is placed on the problem areas. This treatment is used for broken capillaries, pigmentation and hair removal. Bruising and mild redness may appear, but these will disappear in a few days.

Other treatments include the use of collagen to “fill” out the skin, improve its elasticity and thus, get rid of wrinkles. Other dermatologists and doctors also make use of dermal fillers aside from collagen – these include hyaluronic acid and restalyne. But you should take not that the effects of these treatments are temporary and you will need several touch up treatments.

These are non-invasive treatments that you can opt for. However, it is best to always study the best option for you and to discuss the pros and cons of each of the treatments. Mind you, these treatments should only be done by qualified professionals. Never entrust your face to those who are not trained to provide the treatment. Feel free to talk to your doctor and ask questions about the treatments, particularly the effects they will have on the skin.
