Back links do matter when it comes to your site`s growth in traffic and popularity, there are a lot of techniques that can be used in the back linking strategies, most of them are efficient if done correctly, every should avoid the black listed techniques, otherwise they might risk to be declassified by most of the search engines. The best way to build some strong back links is to submit your blog to the highest page rank directories.Submissions are free to most of the directories, some will charge per number of submissions, anyways these paid directories will require your site or blog to be old enough to get listed and a certain page rank. There are thousands out there. So , submitting your link to all free blog directories , or web directories (remember , don`t just submit it to one , have your link placed in all of them), this can be done in time.Think about 20 -30 directory submissions every day, you could get your site listed in more than 6000 in just one year. I know most people are lazy , I am not one of them , and I do my best when it comes to my blogs and sites. There are directory submission services , that will send your link to 1000+ directories for as low as 200$, try to be careful when choosing a directory submission services, they are always better to be done manually. This way you can save some time , but spend some money , it`s up to you.
1.Link Exchanges. These are also very important, but some things must be well know before you start exchanging links :
Exchange links only with related sites , on your niche. This is one of the SEO rules, it just lets the search engine`s crawlers to know what your site is linking to, and decide what the subject of your site is. For example your own a "Healthy Diet Blog" , try exchanging links only with blogs on that specific subject. Placing a link on a sport`s blog will not only be useless but it can harm your page rank as well, over the time.
Do not spam other bloggers mails , begging for link exchanges. Do it only when you find a blog on your niche and ask nicely for a link exchange. Don`t be aggressive , there is not a single webmaster that likes being spammed. I get hundred of spam mails daily, I wouldn`t be needing any more. There are a lot of blog forums , social networks , chat rooms for bloggers , where you can start new threads for link exchanges , there will be interested people for sure , that will contact you.
2. Quality Content. Posting quality content will bring you lots of back links on the long run. This is called 'word of mouth'. Just doing a short research on one of the most popular blogs in the blogosphere, Problogger.net, it managed to get over 600,000 back links , in the past 3 years, not only for the great content, but he became very popular, that people will actually link to that blog, without anyone even asking them to do so. So publishing interesting , unique content , will make people link to your blog`s posts. This results in huge amounts of traffic coming from those links.

3.Forums.
Let the world know about your blog !
Posting on forums can sometimes be one of the best ways to drive traffic to your blog. Forums give bloggers the ability to insert their own signatures in the posts, and links to desired articles or web pages. Avoid spamming the forums, most of them close accounts for using referral links in your signatures, be relevant , join the discussion, or you might risk to get banned. All communities , including forums , can bring a decent amount of traffic and what all of us want most are readers. For those that don`t know there is a difference between regular traffic and the actual readers, that become loyal to your blog, Some of the greatest forums are Warriors , Digital Point , Bloggeries, Blog Premiere , you might also want to consider others, you can always do a google search, there are plenty of other forums on the web, it depends on what niche you are more active.
4. RSS Feeds
Now RSS Feeds are another way to get your blog listed in the major RSS Syndication Sites. People can catch up on your latest posts , subscribe to your RSS feed by mail or reader. Try to syndicate your posts through the most popular syndication feeds and or elsewhere you are able to syndicate the content of your blog.
5. Article Directories.
Article directories can generate impressive amounts of traffic. No matter you have a blog, you are selling a product, you are promoting a serive article directories are traffic generators. The traffic is usually highly targeted, you conversions can be pretty nice. If you know a lot about the subject you blog about , then writing articles could be very beneficial. Articles can contain , a number of links back to your site, product , service, this is how the traffic will start flowing in. Article directory submissions is one of the most popular ways to market something online, lots of marketers still use it, in despite of the rumours, that say the traffic doesn`t convert.
6. Be creative
Design a nice looking banner , usually small ones will do, and write the Html Code for it. There might be people that like your blog and just link to you.
7. Buy Contextual Adverting.
Make up a small budget and start spending it on adverting. Now this should not be done unless your blog is some months old. In my opinion , I`ve run some Adwords campaigns , I can tell that Google is the most efficient , but you could also buy Text-Link-Ads , they perform pretty well. If you don`t know much about advertising and such, join some forums, have someone teach you the basics of buying advertising and how to spend your budget more efficiently.

nice one, but I prefer just to make a post in a forum, I think its more easier then submiting to 20-30 free directories.
Directories have always been a great strategy in link building. Of what I`ve seen large websites choose the highest page rank paid directories, they are the most effective on long term.
Great list of techniques. I'll share it with my SEO friends.
leaving comments on blogs are a good way but takes a lot of time
Thats brilliant its really helpful. Thanks very much.
Great hub, thank you for sharing your experience. I would also add commenting on so-called "do-follow" blogs for getting juicy and relevant one way links back to your site.
Cheers, I am 'desperately' trying to build quality inbounf links to my websites. Amazing that some show up within days whilst others take months. Thanks for your tips, I too am a little lazy but every so often receive a small income which spurs me on.
