Electrical Tools
Electrical Tools

Many of the Home Improvement and DIY Home Repair and Maintenance jobs may need use of electrical tools, apart for some of the other essential tool kit. Most of the home electrical wiring jobs are quite easy to handle and work with using some of the basic electrical tools.

Using these electrical tools is not that difficult. Most of them can be used / operated just by reading the user manual.

Here are some the most common and basic electrical tools that all homeowners should have:

Circuit tester

A circuit tester is a simple and inexpensive electrical tool used for most electrical works.

A circuit tester plugs into an electrical outlet and tells whether or not the circuit is "hot" or properly grounded.

Wire Stripper

Most electrical wires used in home wiring have a plastic or rubber insulation. These insulations or covers need to be removed when we splice the wires or connect them to devices. A good wire stripper serves this purpose. A wire stripper strips or removed the cover from the conductor or a wire. While working with a wire stripper, it is important to use the proper wire gauge.

Screwdrivers

A screwdriver is a must have tool for all home owners. Both Phillips-head (+) and Flat-Bladed or Slotted ( - ) screwdrivers are important.

A screwdriver kit with all kinds of screwdrivers with good insulated rubber grip is good.

Allen Wrench Set (Hex Set)

Allen wrenches are used to tighten Allen-headed screws in your electrical panel.

Continuity tester

A continuity tester is a small battery-operated electrical tool used to determine whether wiring is broken and electrical circuits are complete or not.

Neon voltage tester

A neon voltage tester is another small but very helpful electrical tool used to know whether wires are "hot" or not.

Multi-meter

A good Multi-meter is another must-have electrical tool. It is used in most electrical works. It is used to check - continuity, voltage, output voltage etc.

Using a multi-meter is not very difficult. Just read the manufacturer's instructions.

Lineman's pliers

A pair of lineman’s pliers is the best tool for cutting heavy wire or cable and twisting wire ends together. These are quite easy and handy to use.

Long-nose pliers

Long-nose pliers are used for bending small loops at wire ends and for cutting off wires.
