Electrolysis and Laser treatments are options for permanent hair removal here are their differences:

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a more guaranteed form of hair removal and works on dark and light hair.

A sterile needle is inserted into every hair follicle. A low level electrical current kills the follicle. Electrolysis focuses on one hair at a time, so it can be a long process. Therefore it is better for smaller areas like the brows, upper lip and bikini line.

The pain from electrolysis is a bit greater than laser. It feels like little pricks on your skin. Everyone is different, some may feel this more then others.

Cost is about $40 for a 30 minute session. You will need about 15 to 25 visits to see the best results.

Unlike lasers, electrolysis kills every hair follicle the aesthetician treats.

Laser Hair Removal

Results are not guaranteed with laser hair removal. But you can expect at least an 85% reduction in hair growth.

Laser treatments work best on dark hair because the laser targets melanin which is found in darker hair. If you have dark skin the laser will target the melanin in your skin which may cause pigmentation problems.

Lasers are more painful than creams or tweezing. The light from the laser can feel like a rubber band snapping your skin. Try taking an Advil one hour before.

Each session is about 10 minutes. You'll need 5 to 6 treatments spaced four weeks apart. The bad news is laser hair removal is pretty expensive. Each session can cost around $140 to $200.

You may have to shave the area a few more times afterwords but then the hair will fall out within 10 to 14 days.

Beware of cheaper places. Make sure you are going to a credible, licensed aesthetician who is using the safest and most up-to-date machines available.
