What Electronic Pest Control Can - or Cannot Do For You

Sooner or later it happens to all of us. You open a closet or lift a rug, and there it is. A roach, ladybug, or some other multi-legged nightmare is looking you right in the eye; and you know that they never travel alone. You don’t want to spend a lot of money on an exterminator, and you don’t want to mess with those toxic chemicals. That leaves you with one question: Does electronic pest control work? The short answer is yes…and no.

If your problem is with rodents, an electronic pest control device may be just what you’re looking for. They are ideal for attics, basements and garages. They work by emitting a high frequency sound wave that rodents do not like. There are many electronic pest control reviews that endorse this as a permanent solution. Some studies however, suggest that these pests may return within a few days. In the worst case, an electronic pest control repeller can offer an opportunity to seal any openings, to prevent their return. If you are planning to try one though, you should keep in mind that if you have hamsters or gerbils they are rodents, too. They will be affected the same as the rats and mice you are trying to repel.

Since these products can drive out rodents, they may also be used effectively as outdoor electronic pest control devices. Keep in mind that mice and rats are not the only rodent species. 40% of all mammals are rodents; including squirrels, chipmunks, porcupines and groundhogs. All of which may be repelled to a degree.

If you have a bug problem, that’s where things can get tricky. There are dozens of electronic pest control products that claim to be effective in eliminating bugs, insects and even spiders. The truth is, not all bugs are repelled by electronic pest control devices. Many entomologists believe that some bugs are actually attracted to them. Under the right circumstances, you may only be trading one infestation for another.

While ants and spiders are largely unaffected by these sound waves, there has been some success with eliminating one of nature’s most prolific and dreaded pests. Cockroaches detect high frequency waves through their antennae, and they do not seem to like them. One thing to remember, however, is that these sound waves stop when they hit a flat surface, such as a wall. Since walls are among this nasty little critter’s favorite places to live, electronic pest control repellers are best used near the holes and tunnels through which they travel.

When choosing a device or package, you must take into consideration the size of your home. If you have more than a single story home, you will need to purchase a device for each floor. Otherwise, you run the risk of merely chasing the pests from one floor to the next.

Your indoor electronic pest control options are many, and they offer a healthy and green alternative to toxic pesticides.
