Electronic Readers: Amazon Kindle vs. Sony Reader
71Amazon Kindle
Have You Purchased an Electronic Book Reader Yet?
Face it, it is only a matter of time before we live in the world of the Jetsons, and all books are read on electronic book readers. Paper books will eventually go the way of great pieces of art, and be kept in museums, and libraries, while most of us will be reading our books the electronic way.
Why? Lots of reasons:
- Electronic books are cheaper.
- Electronic books do not use paper which is a natural resource.
- Electronic books are eco-friendly.
- Electronic book readers are small, and lightweight.
- Electronic book readers hold hundreds of books.
- Electronic books travel easily.
- Electronic book readers are easy to use.
So, just like a digital camera, or a computer, the question is not "do you have an electronic book reader?", but "when will you be buying an electronic reader?"

Electronic book readers have really not hit their stride yet. They have mostly been discovered by avid technology buffs, gadget collectors, and frequent travelers. The rest of us have not been convinced that it is a technology we need, because regular books are still readily available.
But the truth is, with the economy the way it is, more of us are buying our new books online instead of locally because book stores are becoming more scarce. Plus wouldn't you rather buy books for less money? Once you spend the money on the electronic book reader, the individual books become much cheaper, and you can keep hundreds of them on your reader.

Amazon Kindle
Amazon Kindle is one of the best known electronic book readers. Amazon has had the advantage of being a book seller with a captive audience of book readers to sell their Kindle to, but the Amazon Kindle has gotten a lot of great reviews from buyers, and they are now offering the new Kindle DX which has a wider screen, and is larger than the Kindle.
The original Kindle has a 6 inch screen, and the new version has a 9 inch screen. Both have their fans, although a 6 inch screen is my preference, but I do not like holding large books either.

Sony Touch Reader
While the Kindle is Popular, I Prefer the Sony Reader
You may have recently seen television commercials about the Sony Reader Touch Edition™which lets you access up to 350 books at one time. This device also has a 6 inch screen, but it is a touch screen. You can highlight and annotate pages, so it is great for reading work texts or college textbooks.
The Sony Reader supports multiple file formats including ePub and PDF, so you can get your ebooks from multiple locations.

Sony Has a Proven Reputation for Electronics
One of the things that I love about the Sony electronic book reader is that it comes from Sony, a trusted electronics company for many years. They have already proven themselves on computers, televisions, and Playstations. This device is just another extension of their excellent electronics technology. Sony is also known for their excellent service department.
