Eli vs. Peyton Manning

I'm a life long Giants fan, so when the Giants made that bold draft day trade a few years ago to obtain quarterback Eli Manning from San Diego for what amounted to Phillip Rivers and a large farm, I was giddy. Giddy because I was hopefully Eli could duplicate his big brother's NFL stats.

After watching Eli for a few years, and watching Peyton continue to get better even for him, it's clear at this point that Peyton is probably a superior quarterback. But that doesn't mean Eli isn't very, very good, something he proved by leading the G-men to a Super Bowl title after the 2007 season. Here are some similarities and differences between the two NFL quarterback brothers:

Similarities

* Both of these guys have a sixth sense for finding a receiver in traffic, especially on third down and especially near the goal line. Peyton has Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne, and Eli has Plaxico Burress and Jeremy Shockey.

* Both of them call audibles at the line of scrimmage like their life depends on it. You can seriously get dizzy watching both of these guys jump up and down and change the play, pointing and waving and jumping around.

* Both brothers have a serious passion for the game, and want to win in the worst way. Both are also students of the game.

* Both of them now have Super Bowl rings and Super Bowl MVP Awards.

Differences

* Peyton has more sense as to when to get rid of the ball, while Eli still occasionally throws a pass that he shouldn't, resulting in interceptions.

* Peyton is more outspoken, leading to several endorsement deals. Seriously, what product has Peyton Manning not pimped? But Eli is catching up in that department, and his marketability can go through the roof now that he's won a Super Bowl as a player in New York.

* Peyton has just a bit more zip on his ball, and like he says in the commercial, a "laser, rocket arm."

* Peyton starred at the University of Tennessee and Eli starred at the lesser known football powerhouse University of Mississippi.

* Peyton stars in the small Midwest city of Indianapolis, while Eli is under huge scrutiny at all times in the nation's biggest city and metropolitan area.

i am abseloutly in love with the manning borthers. people need to quit talking smack saying " NE Patriots are better"

when inreality, Tom Brady and the Patriots don't have CRAP on the Mannings.

they're the most talented young men you'll meet.

i'm gunna be a colts & ginats fan till the day i die.

Ok...so I am not certain what URL stands for...so please don't hold that against me. =) So what...I am 33 years old and am learning about football. Yeah, I have brother's, but I guess I just never really cared to learn about it before. So, here I am having a great time learning about the sport. I am from NY and my entire family loves the NY Giants! And the last two games the Giants played were AWESOME!! Plus, oh yes...Eli Manning is very fine! He looks like such a sweetheart...just what every woman is looking for and what his fiance should be proud to be with! Eli...if things don't work out feel free to look me up and if not I wish you all of the luck in the world!! You are a great guy!

In my opinion, that was one of the best Super Bowls I've seen. The drive by Manning and the Giants at the end was honestly a moment I won't soon forget. The catch by Tyree was one of the most significant catches in league history..period. With respect to the Patriots, I was pulling for your Giants. Congrats!

hey Lightstruck.....I completely agree with you....not a day has gone by since Feb 3 that I haven't thought about the game and the drive and the catch. It's all pretty remarkable and something we're going to look back fondly on for a long time.

Interesting hub and I think that was a great Super Bowl in the fact that the underdog Giants worked better as a team than the then undefeated Patriots could. What do you think are the chances of a Manning vs. Manning Super Bowl this season?

You're right and considering the amount of press last year's Super Bowl got, I know a brother vs. brother one would pull ridiculous amounts of spectators and advertisers. The only problem with a Colts/Giants game is the Dallas Cowboys. lol By the way, I wrote a hub on Favre and if you're a football fan like I think you are, I'm curious to know what you think.

I love Peyton and I'd have to agree that Eli is really good too. This season, he has really stood out as a top-tier QB and I think it will be a matter of a season or two before Eli is better than Peyton
