Get Organized

Credit cards are everywhere, but it is no secret that they do have some drawbacks. It is obvious that credit cards come with interest rates, and some of those rates are incredibly high. It is those interest rates that can sneak up on you and actually end up significantly hurting your credit score and your financial solvency.

In order to avoid this you want to make sure that you can pay off credit cards so that you are not carrying balances. When you eliminate credit card debt it will help to show that you are in a good financial position while also affording you the freedom to use your extra income in the way that you please. Though it may seem like a murky situation to wade through, paying off credit cards debt is actually easier than you might think.

The first thing that you need to realize is that if you are only making the minimum payments on all of your credit cards it will take you years to eliminate credit card debt. Instead, you should spend some time to logically formulating a plan as to how you are going to tackle those balances. The best way to start to pay off credit cards is to get a clear picture of exactly what your financial situation is.

Collect all of your credit card statements in one place so that you can write down some important details from them. Look through each one and write down the total balance on the card, the interest rate, and the minimum monthly payment due on each card. All of this information is essential in your quest to eliminate credit card debt. Once you have all of this information you need to put your cards in descending order by interest rates. The card with the highest interest rate should be at the top and the lowest rate should be at the bottom of your list. This will instantly give you the order in which you should try to start paying down that credit card debt.

Take Action!

Now you have a debt priority list.  Next, you must take a look at how much extra cash flow you can dedicate to tackling it.  Take a look at your overall financial picture.  Add up your minimum payments so that you know exactly how much money you must have set aside to pay those.  After you have that you want to take a look at all of your other household expenses.  Really evaluate all of those costs.  Are there areas that you can cut down?  Once you have found the areas where you can minimize your expenses you can then reallocate that money to pay off credit cards

Take the extra money that you have freed up to start to eliminate credit card debt.  While you are doing this be sure that you are still making your minimum payments on your other cards.  Soon enough though you will have that first card paid off, and from there you can use that extra money to hit the second card on your list, and then the third.  Eventually you will have been able to pay off credit cards, and you will be able to experience a new picture of financial freedom.
