Signs of a Snoring Problem

Snoring affects a significant portion of the country's population, and while the sounds may sound funny to those who hear them, they're no laughing matter to the snorer or the snorer's sleeping companion as well. A chronic snorer tends to have a lot of difficulty breathing and sleeping, and because of their snoring, they usually end up feeling exhausted even after a night of sleep. Another sign you should watch out for to determine whether you're suffering from a snoring problem is having a headache when you wake up. If you also wake up with a dry mouth, it's another sign that you've been snoring and breathing through your nose all night. What happens because of snoring is that it affects people's work performance and function throughout the day, resulting in other unwanted consequences on your personal life and your career.

The Causes of Snoring

So how does snoring develop?

Some people are just naturally predisposed to snoring as a result of their physical makeup, but most times, it is caused by one's lifestyle. For instance, smoking and drinking tend to drive more chemicals and harmful substances into your mouth and throat, causing the tissues to thicken and making it hard for air to pass through. The air then vibrates strongly against these tissues. The same thing happens when a person is overweight; there are more fat deposits in the throat and causing the same narrowing of the throat airways.

Your sleeping position also plays a great part in your snoring, particularly if you sleep flat on your back. In this position, your mouth goes slack and your tongue slips backward into your throat, creating too little a space for air to travel.

Getting Snore Relief

Your snoring problem can be soothed by the right snore relief remedies. It is always best to identify the cause of your snoring first before leaping into experiments with various snoring cures. For starters, if the culprit of your snoring problem is your sleeping position, you should teach yourself to sleep on your side instead, and get used to this position. If cigarettes and alcohol are coating your throat with harmful chemicals, put a stop to your smoking and/or drinking habit. Overweight? Shed the pounds by getting more exercise and eating right.

Other cures are also available to you, such as elevated pillows that can prevent your head from leaning too far back, sprays that moisten the throat, and nose clips can let air circulate more freely in your mouth and throat.
