I knew everyone was going to go bonkers when they heard the news about Ellen DeGeneres as the new and upcoming judge on "American Idol."

So many of the loyal fans are threatening to leave "American Idol" as a fan and stating that "they will no longer be watching the show."

I loved Paula as much as the next guy or gal, but Paula decided to leave the show. She was a great judge with a big heart. The contestants could always get a pat on the back, even when they sometimes didn't deserve it. Paula will certainly be missed, but life goes on.

The reason I watch "American Idol", is for the singers, not the judges! I try and pick the next upcoming star. I'm so glad I watched last year, because I was able to witness a few contestants like "Adam Lambert" and all of the sensational performances! As for me, I'm staying and I look forward to another great year. Paula will be missed, but she doesn't want to be on the show anymore!

Ellen is someone that I never cared for or against. When I watched her on TV, I thought she was entertaining. Ellen, like Paula, is another person with a big heart. There needs to be a judge like that. Think about it. We have Randy, the cool judge repeating himself every week calling all of the contestants "Dog!" Kara, who gets all "confused" worked up and hard-nosed Simon! Simon is never kind and is often rude. We all love Simon though, or at least I do.

So here is the bottom line. We need a caring compassionate judge. In addition to being that, Ellen has the ability to make things funny. Ellen is also a huge American Idol fan. She tunes in every week just like the rest of us. I personally think she will be an asset and I look forward to her and the new season.

My wife, who was never a fan in the past, told me this morning that now because of Ellen, she will start watching this show with me! How cool is that?
