An Internet Tycoon That Puts His Money Where His Vision Is!
You've got to admire Internet Tycoon Elon Musk.
Elon is a serial entrepreneur that built and sold 2 businesses between 1995 and 2002.
One of those was PayPal, which was sold to eBay for a very cool $1,500,000,000!
But those accomplishments weren't enough to satisfy his business appetite.
I'm Just A Space Cowboy!
He then founded a company called SpaceX.
SpaceX develops technology to launch satellites and other objects into space.
Now, if you'd not heard of SpaceX before Aug 3, 2008, you've probably heard of them now.
It's the company that (on Aug 3, 2008) lost three satellites and other cargo in an attenpted launch into space.
That other cargo included the ashes of astronaut Gordon Cooper and those of actor James Doohan, otherwise known as "Scotty" on the original Star Trek TV series.
Internet Tycoon Musk also has ownership in Tesla Motors, a company that manufacturers electric vehicles.
When I recruited emerging growth companies for London, England, I actually tried to recruit Tesla Motors.
And I'm real disappointed that Mr. Musk didn't call me back personally to discuss the intricacies of international expansion in the UK!
The Future Is Now!
So let's get this straight, Elon Musk has seen the vision of, and invested in, two key future industries:
- Space exploration
- Alternative energy
It's obvious that Musk is a high-risk, high-stakes business cowboy.
But, let's also give credit to those unknown smart, hard-working souls that surround him. They get very liitle name recognition because, well, few people know their names.
However, one thing's for sure:
No business mogul has ever made it alone.
- ... no Internet Tycoon
- ... no Oil Magnate
- ... no Media Mogul
None have ever done it all by themselves.
Though some would have you believe just that!
There has always been, and always will be, a cadre of folk that stand in the shadows, off to the side, fairly content to allow Mrs. Mogul to shine in the spotlight.
They likely have the best of both world's: Wealth without the notoriety!
Lesson ... Lessons ... Lessons!
Here's one lesson I think the story of Elon Musk can teach you and other potential Tycoons:
Always be looking a little bit ahead to the next development or trend.
I'm not saying that you need to consult a crystal-ball reader.
Just look a little beyond where you are now.
Look ahead 6 months ... 1 year ... 2 years ... See what's coming ... Prepare to take advantage of it when it arrives ... Whatever It Is For You!
