Email Marketing Terms

Before you can begin your email marketing campaign, it's good to have some background knowledge of the metrics that you might be dealing with in the email marketing arena and the different terms that might be used to measure specific aspects of your campaign. Here, we see to the top 5 email marketing terms that might help you get some reasonable insights into the kind of terms that you might be expected to know in a campaign.

Subject line

Your subject line is the first thing customers will see when your campaign shows up in their inbox. You've got to make it count. Your subject line should be no more than 50 or so characters in length, must be simple and clean, and honest as well.

Click Through Rate (CTR):

This is an interesting ratio that can help you decide upon the quality of the content that you have in your emails. The click through rate is the ratio of the number of clicks to the specific URL of yours to the total number of mails that are opened. If the content is more appealing the ratio is higher or else you need to improve on the content part.

Email blacklist:

The ISPs have a list of suspected spammers and this is used to filter the mails that are coming to a specific email address. The blacklist if formed according to the complaints received from the users of the ISP and there is also a good chance that some good intentional email that has sufficient permissions can land in the junk folder or can be completely blocked due to false interpretation that they are spam.

Above the fold:

The part of the page that is readily visible for the viewer in the web page is called above the fold. The email marketing campaigns have to have their service descriptions and opt in options in this area to become more effective. Not many users will be scrolling down to check out the entire description, so having it crisp and focused in this area is going to be more productive.

House list:

The house list refers to the list of contacts that you already have with you. This is one of your valued possessions and you have to use it well. It must be completely permission-based and only feature customers that have specifically asked to receive emails from you.
