Empty Nest Syndrome -- My Teen is Leaving Home

My daughter will soon be graduating from high school and I wanted to prepare myself for the dreaded EMPTY NEST SYNDROME. I remember when she was 1yrs old and I couldn't wait for her to started kindergarten. Then I couldn't wait for her to be in grade school. One morning I awoke and we were picking out a prom dress. What happen to the time?

What Is It?

The Empty Nest condition occurrences when the children leave home. Some go off to college, some get married, and others go exploring the world (Note: Some come back - and that has to be some type of disorder).

All of my friends warned me about the dreaded Empty Nest - and up until now I thought they were crazy, but I feel it coming. What will I do with out that free time that I used to use "being a mom". Sure over the years I said to myself - I will travel, have more time to focus on my business ... and on, and on. But reality is setting in.

Why Do Parents Get It?

It must be in the water because our job as parents is to teach our children how to be independent - and that's the sound of achievement. However, a conflict sets in just before the child's true independent is about to be realized. Why? Some psychologists say - lost of authority, lost of communication, loneliness, fear, and/or a void.

How to Cope!

  • Faith - Believing in a great power. A power that will watch over your child as you did, keeping them safe from harm.
  • Re-Connecting with your spouse - Set a date night once a week.
  • Get involved - Go to church and community events.
  • Renew - Revise some of those dreams you had when you were young.
  • Reinvent - Go to new places, meet new people.

Are you ready for an Empty Nest?

What are some of the dreams you will renew?

Where do you want to travel too?

As my teen would say - Help! Crazy Mom onboard (LOL)
