English Words used in Filipino Language
There are English words that are presently been using by Filipinos in their everyday lives. I will itemize two and these are the “Solved” and “Success.” These are English words but have unusual meaning if it was used by common Filipinos.
The “Solved” and “Success” words are almost the same in meaning in Filipino context but it is dependent on the situation. Although the two words in English dictionary have their own legitimate meaning, in Filipino, these two unconventional words mean “Done” or “Satisfied”
“Success” is widely used for people suffering from constipation, which if they are finished using the toilet, they could shout out to themselves or others “Success!!!” it means the constipation is done and all the necessary things were flushed out already. The person must shout the word “Success!!!” so that people would acknowledge its second meaning or its Filipino meaning. On the other hand, the word “Solved” is used by drug addicts if they are done using prohibited drugs. Or the scenario would be, if a drunk man was sitting at the side of the street, so drunk that his head is turned down but the body is in slouch position and totally wasted, a bystander could say “Man, he’s solved.” it means he’s finished drinking for the night. As a rule (a bit) the word “Solved” is for vices where “Success” is for illness normally.
These two words are informal within Filipino community and it should be used only for casual conversations.
