Shasta Americas best kept secret...until now.
Shasta Lake is one of the most pristine lakes in the world. It is also one of the least known lakes in the world. Most people in California when they think of a lake they think Lake Tahoe. Tahoe is great but in all truthfullness Shasta Lake offers more to do than Tahoe or any other lake for that matter in California or the entire US. Shasta is a gem in terms of recreation. If you are into water sports and haven't yet spent a few days or weeks on the lake you are missing out on the opportunity and vacation of a lifetime. Think uncrowded and you have a great picture of Shasta Lake.
Shasta Lake offers way more to do than Tahoe.
- For one you can rent a houseboat on Shasta Lake and unless you own one that is sitting on Tahoe you won't be able to do that at Tahoe.
- Second is the water. We all know that you can see a mile down in the water at Tahoe. But did you know the same holds true at Shasta. Yes you really can see a long way down.
- Tahoe is one massive lake with very few private areas. Shasta is all about privacy with its hundreds of private coves. Just pull up and spend the night in one with no one else around.
- Since we are talking about water what about the temperture? Unless you have a wet suit plan on freezing your butt off in Tahoe. Shasta on the other hand is warm and refreshing.
- Wakeboarding is very difficult at Tahoe because it is so large and has very few coves. On the other hand at Shasta that is not a problem. You can pull up in hundreds of coves and have it all to yourself on perfect glass.
- If your into fishing Shasta has Tahoe beat just because it is easier to catch fish at Shasta than Tahoe. Because Tahoe is deep and massive you really need a guide. Shasta on the other hand is extermely fishable almost anywhere. Nothing like a few fresh trout for dinner BBQued on the back of your houseboat.
- Tahoe because of it's size gets rough...real rough. Shasta on the hand offers smooth boating without the bounce.
So when your looking for that perfect water expereince with less traffic and better overall contditions don't forget Shasta Lake.
