I really enjoy using flameless candles especially in places such as the workplace, where regular candles would be considered a fire hazard. What surprised me is that the idea is a hit among people who see it on my desk for the first time and I am amazed by how many people have never seen or heard of a "flameless candle".

This hub is to let others know about the flameless candle, its gaining popularity and availability.

My favorite flameless candle brands are the Glade flameless candle or the Febreeze flameless luminaries, although I haven't actually used the latter yet.

I saw the Febreze luminaries in a magazine advertisement and will be trying those next. They look really adorable.

The Febreze flameless luminaries are nice because there are various decorative shades that you can collect. They are available in the following scents: green tea citrus, pomegranate mango, cranberry pear, and willow blossom.

I am currently using Glade flameless candles which give the same nice glow with a plain oval glass shade.

To use:

My Glade flameless candles are battery operated. Two AA batteries are needed. The candle contains a scented oil that heats up and is released into the air in short puffs. My favorite scent to purchase is the vanilla. It smells great.

As long as working batteries are inserted, the candle will continue to work until the oil is completely dried up. To save the money from purchasing another candle, you can get just the oil refill.

The candle glows with a soft light and is very soothing just like a real candle. It will glow continuously for 3 hours before the light shuts off.

All you have to do is press down on the candle holder to get it glowing again.

I think that the batteries get eaten up relatively quickly when the candle is working continuously all day but I still enjoy using it.

I think that slowly, with more advertising and as more people talk and write about flameless candles, they will gain widely in popularity. For now, I can find them in few stores and when I ask many of the sales clerks, they have never heard of it. They say, "A flameless candle? A candle without a flame? Wow, I am trying to imagine it." My favorite supermarket for buying the flameless candle has stopped stocking it, just when I was looking for an oil refill.

I am looking forward to when the flameless candle or flameless luminary is much more popular and conveniently/readily available.

Cost:

The Glade flameless candles are not cheap but I think they are worth the price. A new candle with oil can cost around $11. The best price I have seen is $9.99 at drugstore.com.

In stores, an oil refill can cost around $5. Sometimes I find coupons in the Sunday paper for $3 off the candle with oil or $1 off the oil refill alone. The Febreze flameless luminaries are a bit more expensive: approximately $15.99 for a starter kit and $5.99 for an oil refill based on cheapest found price at drugstore.com.
